Sunday 27th January

Well its been a few days again since i managed to get a decent update posted, but i have been busy doing bits and bobs

Firstly heres a bit of Group N for your eyes. Many thanks for KamRacing

If anyone has/or knows of a fitting guide for where the metal bits are going then please let me know, there was a mention of welding?

Catch tank arrived

As did the silicone hoses courtesy of SFS, extremely pleased with the quality and accuracy of these

Then ive cracked on with the engine a little bit, first job that i needed to do was fit the larger injectors supplied by GMC

Thinking that this would be a piece of cake i set to work, i very shortly found out that they are literally a fair bit bigger rather than just the bits to squirt the fuel in

To get these to fit in the injector rail properly i had to use a file to grind a larger bore out of the securing clips as they wouldnt fit round properly

Thinking then that was problem solved i set about putting the rail back into the inlet manifold and putting it back together

easy? nope!

As the plugs on the injectors sat further out the top of the inlet manifold would not reattach as the hollow rail where the throttle cable goes was fouling on the top of the injector loom plugs (ARSE!!!!!)

After the customary cursing that happens i realised that if i rotated the injectors so that the plugs faced downwards then there might be enough room to get the top of the inlet manifold back on.

To do this i had to adapt the clips again as they wouldnt fit with the injector the other way round

Managed this without too much problem. Next problem was connecting the injector loom again, with the plugs twisting there wasnt enough room to stretch the wires as they are all wrapped tightly.

I had to undo all the black tape and take off the plastic insulation which had been restricting things and then rewrap it myself afterwards

After some more tinkering everything fitted and attached together fine.

Normal way up

Upside down with loom now hidden and rewrapped

Finally i got round to degreasing and spraying the ECU mounts

Heres the bottom bit, forgot to get a pic of the bottom bit before reassembling

ECU mount fully assembled and on the car

My task for this afternoon is to get the loom out, clean all the oil and grease off it and check over all the plugs and fittings

Then tomorrow/tuesday i need to trial fit the loom back together and label where everything goes. I did this initially but some parts weren't plugged in before so some were missed out

Due to me being at Uni, I only have 10 days to do the full conversion, so I think it will be tight to do full engine bay painting as is dependant a little on the weather, but will see!! I'll take some pictures and to a progress thread !! Am going for some kms dth bodies in summer, but can't put off putting engine in until then.

Good luck with it, I'll keep an eye on this progress thread !! Am going to try and come up to donnington and FCS, so maybe see you at one of them.

Yeh, it took me and my brother around 4 hours to get the 106gti engine out of the 106 in the first place, so fingers crossed I roughly know where everything goes, and should be able to get my westcoast engine out in one morning, clean up the engine bay in the afternoon, then begin to put the 106gti engine in the following day!!

Can se you've spent loads ££££ on it, things just add up sooo quickly !!

Good luck with it !

Also, a quick query, hope you don't mind me putting it in your progress thread.

With 708's in could you have not stayed with the original vts injectors? Where the uprated ones a must ?? Roughly how much did they cost you ??

Just trying to find out for when I put the Newmans PH3's in.

I could have stayed with the standard injectors which were fine for the setup that i have

BUT

After speaking to GMC where i ordered the KMS ecu from they said that they have a fair better map with these injectors and the car will run alot smoother.

And the big plus point if i was to look for any higher power in the future injectors would need to be bigger- These ones they assured me will cover any amount of power that could ever possibly be achieved from a Saxo

They'd used them on a 220bhp at the wheels turbo'd saxo a few days previously

Injectors were £140 for the set, so considering the amount ive spent anyway the injectors were small change

Good work on the injectors mate, you'll need to do plenty of improvising over the next month!

Dont forget all those hoses, manifold etc is probs going to have to come off as i dont think it will fit hrough the top (or will be very close and you dont want to damage that wrap do you )
