i'd start with some good shampoo's, conditioner's and polishes etc.
will make a good starting point to the finished article tbh.
i personally use autoglym, like it and think its good, plus i stock up when it's 3 for 2.
plus, the more polishes, and waxes etc you use/put on it, the better the protection and finish, thus reducing the dreaded swirlies ?!?!?!

Prepare to get a massive list of products off people which will cost an arm and a leg
Do you have a budget? What stuff have you got at the min? Did you inflict the swirl marks or did it come with them?

I am a car valleter and we use auto gylm products. So I get everything so cheap and at silly prices. The stuff I have atm are -
Bodywork shampoo conditioner
Super resin polish
Alloy wheel seal
Hi tech finishing cloth
Now to wash the car I use a wool mit. I am sure this isn't good for the paint. What else is out there which would help reduce any swirling?
Cheers for the advice so far guys

just drive real fast everywhere, no one will notice your swirls then vince
my wool wash mitt is fine, but make sure to use a separate one to do the wheels!
i usually use zymol cleaner wax first and then turtle wax nano tech polishing wax as a final coat.
when i can be bothered to clean it anyway, summer time :d

have you read the cleaning guides at the top?
Yeah if you get auto glym cheap i would use that as you can get good results, Matt Westy's black sax back in the day for example

vinny do you use the two bucket method? i would get a superspray hose attachment to wash the bodywork down before you go near it with a washmit.

mostly down to peoples opinions, as im sure i seen write ups on here about megs scratch x being crap just like a poor t cut kind of thing..
also i use nano tech wax thing in a green bottle? and find its absolutely crap doesnt get rid or mask any swirls neither light or dark, nor on a blue saxo or a red mondeo

Have a read of the Car Car links, there's some great info on there.
Id recomend Autoglym too, always used it and its great stuff.
Basically, the 2 bucket method is a must-have, there's no point ptting dirty water and suds back into the clean stuff.
Use a good shampoo/conditioner, and wash with a lambswool mitt (seperate one for wheels and arches). These lift dirt particles rather than spreading them around like yellow sponges.
Dry the car properly, this is really important in reducing swirl marks, microfibre towels are a better choice than the traditional chamois.
Dont polish the car after every wash. Its brand new, meaning even light abrasive polishes, if used that often will increase wear of the paintwork by gradually stripping the clear coat.
Clay bar. Remove any dried on road debri with a clay bar and good lubricant after drying and before polishing / waxing.
Wax it. Meguiars 3 step waxing programme is great if you can afford the products, otherwise a similar method, you might only need one level of wax as long as you use a good product (Instant Gloss Protection, then Ultra Deep Shine if you want).
Then there are other products such as wheel cleaners, glass polish, tyre dressing etc..
