Default Dents in roof

Just purchased Saxo and on the roof are two dents. Its as if someone has lent on it with elbows and left two elbow sized indentations. Only slight indentations but visible. Would it be easy to remove the roof lining and push them out or tackle them from the top with 'plunger' etc. No paint damage or creasing.
Secondly, to give bodywork a general clean, are the basic electrical polishers from Halfords etc. any good. I am not after a perfect finish, just thought it would save tired arms. Thanks in advance
