I went the previous week with my new lens and well... bit of a fail really although I got to meet DaveG, it's like having to learn all the basics again with it so here goezzz. GF joined me for her first go at motorsport photography, she loved it, and sadly took better pics than I did
Should probably start with the VW's...
ok here they are really...
it's VW powered so it counts.
and a few of others...
shadows causing me beef...
out of shadows the light was gorgeous... and to finish with another VW
Glad I didn't go on saturday!

Were you having big issues with the catch fencing dude as its quite visable in a few shots?
Maybe that was what was giving you big grief?

yeah... basically I'm the wrong bloody height. you get the horizontal part of the fence in the shot... so I either have to shoot below it which naffs my back up or through it which fuggers the pics up... I like my back.
Or I should just hack a bit of my leg off... it's usually not a problem at low f numbers but as the day was quite bright the ap numbers were a touch high and so the lack of contrast from the fence really hindered them.

The horizontal bar is a pain, its why I dont shoot at brands much as i have back ache for a while after. (+ i need a bigger monopod) ++ tom im not selling it.
The 1 does seem to deal with it totally differently to the 30/40 aswell, at times its great, other times its ghey.

I used the 40D for a bit more reach as I gave my lass the teleconverter for most of the day.
I need a 2x in my life... the 120-300 handles it much much better than I was expecting.
Naa I've got a plan next time... bring a fold up chair (cheers dave for that), shoot at chair level - sorted.

dickhead, could have borrowed either of my 2x.
And you know I live 15mins from brands
Might explain it then, did you not find the less reach/1d combo dealt with it better?

I thought you'd be in worthing or something. otherwise I would have asked your skank ass to come join us.
nope! the less reach made it more obvious. It's weird I don't recall the 70-200 with 1.4x @f/5.6 having this much problem with it *scans previous threads*
lesson learnt for next time ayeeeeee

unless I was bang on with the 300 and 2x it did occasionally hunt (more so than the 70-200).
1ds more sensitive than the 30 lol

do not what your moaing about lol some crackers in there, on some where the fence have softened the contrast a bit you can probably just dodge and burn the specific area. other than that top work, i think its amazing looking back at how much us lot have improved at motorsport stuff (apart from dave who was like a guru from the begining lol)
there is another shot you can get slightly further around the outside of druids. there are two woodern posts in the ground which are just wide enough to balance on and allow you to shoot over the fence

James I did that angle years back ontop of the mounds there lol!
Also those mounds can help pan down the back straight.
