the inlet manifold we are using is some thing we designed our selves, i made a mock up out of mdf then took it to my mate at a metal enginees and he made it out of alloy, after it was made he welded it too the alloy trumpets and thats our inlet plenum sorted.
dont know what on the rest if the to do list bud, just want to get iy mapped on sunday to get it running spot on, then i want to get out on the track with it at castle combe on the 27th feb!
cheers

very impressed mate!!

we just welded it with a mig that is over the farm workshop i use, dont think its different from much else but it seemed to weld pretty good to the old manifold, it may be prone to cracking but we will deal with that if it comes to it!
cheers for your interest!

As regard to those solid mounts, they have brought a new definition to the word HARD!!!!!.

Its mapped, 170bhp with just under 180 ft lbs at 10psi. (Boost fall rapidly from 5000 RPM down to around 6psi IIRC)
The Turbo was running out of steam quite early, but I spent a while getting a nice torqy bottom end till the chaps have a look over a recon/hybrid turbo...
Pulls like a train though, I'm sure chris will post up the graphs in a bit

what turbo is it? good torque but not that much increase in power over the throttle bodies... fair enough if its a road car then torque is what you want but as its a track car i cant see him being much quicker than he was before all the turbo stuff went on.

Ah, tourqe is more useful for the overtaking and acceleration out of corners.
The turbo is from a landrover defender diesel as far as I know, hence it passes its barrier at around 5000rpm.
The car will definately be much faster as the area under the graph has increased. Peak power is pub talk, an engine that makes 800bhp at 12,000 revs for 1000revs is no use to anyone, whereas an engien that delivers a steady 170-ish/ft lbs of torque accross the board is the engine that powers the winning cars... thats just my opinion though

you dont need to explain all that to me matey.
i realise that. a graph would explain a few things..
if the turbo runs out of puff at 5 k, then exiting a corner at 5.5k wont be much of an advantage over old spec.
diesel turbos are no good are they. a half decent size turbo will 100% improve everything in my opinion.

Danny, I agree, something like a T3 would be more suited.
Chris has the graphs on his USB pen, he'll post them up
The torque is stil there after 5k, just starts to fall away with the boost unfortunatley

t3 would be better i agree, id be looking more towards a td04 or a k03/k04 as you can get them for a couple of hundred on the bay and they work very well with our cc.
how did you find the mapping after the inlet vacuum pipes were modded.?

Yeh the scooby TD04h FTW
Mapping was much better, lovely constant map readings, although some slight fluctuating TPS readings (Jenvey issue maybe with boost?) which was affecting transients, but not by a degree that would affect anything, just noticable from a mappers point of view.
We also had inlet temps of nearly 50*C so I didnt want to push it too hard. If we used IAT correction on our DD rollers (I tend not to for repeatability on returning cars) then we would of seen around 185bhp.
The final benchmark run will use this, but for progressive mapping I just run ambient air temps (thought I'd add this before any knowitalls chirp up!) to keep readings constant and measure improvement rather than calibrated result.
All cracking stuff though, very impressed with the work that has gone into the car! Always a pleasure to work on it as the guys who built it know the limits and don;t expect silly unsafe targets from what is otherwise a standard block!

interesting stuff.
so as far as improving the car goes,,, a larger more efficient intercooler and a more appropriate turbo will vastly improve things..
from your point of view matt, was there any more difficulty mapping turbo AND boddies over say just turbo or just boddies?? this interests me.

Danny,
Thats my advice to the chaps anyway
In terms of mapping, not really any difference. The TBs did need the mini plenum collecotr type tube for the MAP readings to be stable, but other than its purely a forced induction motor mapped on speed density from my POW.

Right people, with the first chance of gettting on the computer im able to put the dyo graphs up from sunday and a few pics!.
as far as the mapping went, matt @ MTECH was absolutly brilliant and done wonders for the car. The only major down side was the turbo ran out off puff @ 4500rpm, to that rpm it pulled like an absolute train(see graphs) but then as you can see it died of death hence why the power completly died off!.
another prob was the intercooler, its too small for the boost were running and the inlet temps were rocketing up to 50degrees so that was another major bumer amd causing probs. all in all was a good day too be fair with it making 173/5?bhp with 180lb/ft torque which when i drove it on the road, the difference is just so unbelieveable as the torque now literally drags the car the road rather than waiting for it to get to high rpm with the bodies and getting the power then.
Regard to turbo/intercooler, i have got a front mount on the way to keep the ACT'S down and the turbo has been sent too my mate mark @ CR TURBOS where he is going to hybrid it to happily run the power/boost im going to require. when its all back we will put it all back together then back to matt for a check on the dyno again!!.
any questions ill be happy to try answer.
Many thanks chris
thanks for looking

I think 14:1 AFR with 12.5psi on standard pistons is perhaps a bit brave.
