Default Raunchz: Westcoast S - 07/07/2010 (Page 22) - Parts Pictures and Engine bay Pics

Right guys, I thought it would probably be best to start up a new progress thread seeing as the TB build has come to an end and the car is taking a turn into the world of boost now.

This is the car as it currently stands:

The Spec of it is as it stands today:

Engine
1.6 16v 106 Gti Engine
Piper BP285 Camshafts
OEM Catcam Followers
Jp4 Camshaft covers
Oil catch tank for the JP4 cover breathers
Mocal Oil Cooler with Thermostatic Plate
OEM Citroen Oil Filter
Silkolene Pro S 5w40 Oil
Twin fan setup (only one wired in for now)
Peugeot Sport Group N Engine Mounts
Predator Ecu
Innovate LC-1 Wideband
Sandy Brown Inlet
Jenvey TH DCOE Bodies - 42mm
TH Bodies Tapered to fit 45mm Trumpets by Colin Satchel
60mm Trumpets
Custom Throttle Cable Retainer
Jenvey Fuel Rail
Weber Alpha External FPR Housing
3.0Bar FPR
Jenvey Stepped Backplate and Sausage Filter
Cut Scuttle to suit
Piper 4-1 Stainless Manifold
'BTB' 2.5" MAnifold back Exhaust System
Jp Custom 2.5" Decat Section
Fuel Return line plumbed in
Rewrapped Engine loom

Gearbox
S2 Rallye Gearbox
Helix Aluminium Flywheel

Suspension
Biltstein Group N Shocks All Round
GMC 40mm Front Springs (rumoured 160/170lb x 250mm)
Rear lowered to suit
Peugeot Sport 21mm Rear Torsion Bars
Peugeot 24mm Rear ARB
Powerflex Rear Beam mounts
Powerflex Front Wishbone Mounts
Powerflex Front ARB Mounts

Brakes
Hi Spec Billet 4 Front Calipers
Maxtorq Group N GTI-6 Front Discs
Volvo OEM Pads
Exact Front Braided hoses
23mm Master Cylinder
Rear Drums - OEM Setup
Oz Anthracite Superleggera 15" Alloys
Front Toyo T1R's
Rear Toyo T1S's

Interior
Mildly Stripped out
Cobra Evolution S XL Drivers Seat
Cobra Alloy Sidemounts
Custom front subframe
TRS 3" 4 Point Harness
RMD Suede Steering whel
Custom Carbon Fibre Centre

So this is how the NA spec will end with this car. Come the summer various parts will be sold off to make way for parts that are better suited for a nice boosted spec.

The car is booked in on a Rolling Road day on the 24th April, so I'll get to see what sort of figures she's putting out, before pulling here apart in the summer. These figures should hopefully help to sell a few of the key NA parts

*Dyno graph to go here once it's been done*

Right, having been hung up on going with the TB's and boosted, I decided to crunch a few numbers as the primary thing that worried me was the low speed and TPS driveability.

Calculating the TB's throttle plate area and then the throttle plate area of the GMC 55m throttle body, I worked it the TB's to be around 130% larger than the 55m throttle body area - this would have a pretty violent affect on the low TPS angles. Jenvey don't really do any sub 40mm DCOE Bodies that I could simply swap mine for.

As soon as I saw this difference I knew that it would have been a bit of a pig to drive slowly.

What confirmed my choice to ditch the TB's was reading the whole of Sybez's Supercharged TB build - I could see that he'd had problem with the people that'd worked on the car before, but even after GMC sorting it all out, he still ultimately wanted to go back to a standard inlet which just shows about the driveability thing (he had 42mm TB's just like me)

To put the cherry ontop of ditching the TB's, I got the 1 piece plenum through and it was huge, and I think would have required a lot of work to fit so that will be sold on and I'll be going with ...................

as expected really, a C2 vts inlet, 55mm GMC throttle setup. I've already bought a c2 vts inlet, so just waiting on that to come. The same person I'm buying the inlet from, does have some other boosted parts for sale I'm hopefully going to be buying. plus fingers crossed Maxwell sells his Rotrex unit so I can buy his bracket and some parts off him.

As a result, this is my Boost Spec as it stands today, but little bits may change:

Engine
As Above in NA Spec BUT
79mm Wossner Forged Pistons and Rods
Jp4 Head
Porting done myself
Inlet and Exhaust matching done by myself
Piper BP285 Cams
Engine full rebuild
Constella Baffled Sump
Rotrex C30/94 Charger
C2 VTS inlet
ATPower 55mm Throttle Body
690cc Injectors (TBC)
3" Boost Piping
Big intercooler, maybe end up being custom
Alloy radiator

Be4r Gearbox
Gripper Diff (ramp angles TBC)
ATSpeed Gearbox Mounts
Hydraulic Clutch Setup (not 100% - might end up going cable)
OEM Flywheel
Helix Paddle Clutch

Predator Ecu
2.5Bar internal MAP Sensor
Mapping to be confirmed (not sure which company yet-no rush tbh)

Swirl Pot setup
External Fuel pump -> engine

Suspension
As above - NA Spec for now.

Brakes
As above - NA Spec for now.
Carbonne Lorraine Rc5+ Pads for the front
And maybe a rear disc conversion (not 100% yet)

Interior
A very lightweight bucket for the passenger
TRS 4 Point 3" Harness for the passenger
SPA Dash fitted
Streamline Dash surround
A few more items stripped out
A Nice rollcage - spec tbc

Non-Sunroof Skin

That's my ideal spec for now - engine will be done first before sorting the rest. I plan on putting the dash in with the engine so that the dash corresponds to the engine mileage (as they will both start at ZERO miles)

Right, everyone likes pictures - here are some parts pictures I've accumulated already for the project:

More pictures to come over the next week or so of the inlet side of things

For sure

Hopefully it'll be worth the wait. Just uploading a few more pics, and the hopeful spec of the car once it's done, plans etc.

On the subject of throttle plate area, I imagine it will be similar with boost, but for N/A single inlets, I compare the area to two of the TB plates, because it's a closer approximation to assume two cylinders are breathing at once than four. On that principle and subtracting an approximation of the spindle/plate section, about 15% less area with the single inlet. I don't really see that being much of an issue, not one that careful mapping wouldn't resolve anyway.

So you don't think running some boost on TB's would be a nightmare to drive at small TPS signals?

Taking the area of 2 throttle plates instead of 4 changes the area different to a 55mm single Tb a lot !!

it goes from 130% difference to 15% difference, which is sod all really tbh

I don't think so tbh anymore as I keep getting conflicting things about how it'll drive with them on, I currently have both inlet setups so could go either way but with the cost of mapping, I don't want to get the TB and boost mapped up, then find it's hard to drive sensibly and want to go to a standard inlet - but then i do want a crazy car that'll scare me a bit

I'm veering towards the C2 vts inlet as it's been done before, got some cracking results, and after reading sybez's progress thread I'm not sure I want to iron out the problems he had tbh.

I've found a S1600 cf spoiler but not sure whether to take a punt on it as it'd need to be sent from abroad and would need a bit of work doing to it so that it could be mounted on a tailgate again - I think my money is best spent on going boost for now, the little exterior bits can come in the future

It's up to you obviously and whatever whoever is going to map it thinks to be the best strategy, should be foremost in your mind. They'll want to be working on happy and familiar turf. With big boost behind any closed throttle plate, you're going to see dramatic changes in cylinder filling against throttle angle. The single inlet plenum probably acts as something of a pillow in this respect and having general MAP sensing will help with the precision of the air metering.
