I was on the look out for a cheap S1 XSi/Rallye for a project over the winter and Nicole found this one on ebay. Got outbid but no one ever went to collect the car so I went to have a look on Saturday. The car had no MOT or tax, but the shell was solid; no rust in the usual places, took it out for a test drive and drove okay. So bought the car for a total of £250 and found in the car after it had service history an MOTs dating back to 2000 and had receipts for head rebuild, head gasket, water pump, clutch last year and loads more.
Driving home down the M6 we could hear a noise coming from the back and next thing I know the drivers back wheel fell off and overtook me into the fast lane. Luckily the wheel didn't hit anything and i managed to carry on driving into the next layby. The highway agency, incident unit and police came out, checked all the details for an hour pissing about. They even closed a lane and had a 40mph limit due to an 'abandoned vehicle in the road' according to the overhead signs lol.
Once we'd sorted everything with the police, we then drove back the hour to Nottingham to get a spare wheel and some bolts, drove back to the car, changed all the wheels over just incase and drove home again! What should have been a 4 hour trip turned into a 10 hour journey in the end.
Gave it a quick clean today and here's some pictures.
stopped on the M6

How'd you get it home with no tax or MOT?!
Looks a perfect project car in pretty good condition! What sort of plans you got for it?
Presume it was the sellers fault the wheel fell off as nuts were loose?

There only 15s, probs look bigger as the car pretty low on the back.
Wanna get some standard XSi wheels for it soon.

Used trade plates and booked it in for a MOT that day round the corner from where I work.
Erm not a lot really, be a long term project lol. Get it MOT then going to change wishbones, droplinks, track rod ends as knocks on the front end and change all the engine mounts, BakerBM group N ones and give it a service too

I had a wheel fall off on me too only I lost a front one which made it a little harder to steer =/
The 106 looks decent, is it the 1.4 or 1.6?

Well nothing been done to the car, just been sat on the ramp at work since I got it lol.
But Nicole got me some new bits for my birthday,
BakerBM Engine Mounts, PolyRace Front Wishbone Bushes and PolyRace Front ARB Bushes
and also some Collineite 476S Wax and Chemical Guys wet mirror finish.
Just need to get Spoox hose kit, Nissans rad, rear wishbone mounts and new wishbones. Going to get them in next few weeks then should be back on the road hopefully.
On the other hand after renting a house for around 8 months, we finally got our own house sorted 3 bed semi-detatched with a garage too . Just getting the mortgage finalised so shouldn't be long now.
