after many months i am now back on the scene!!

i had my 106 gti taken off me in November by the police

they want to scan it for evidence as it may have been used in crime? and they will not tell me anything about it i have to wait untill the end of this month!!

i now have another gti in my garage which i am going to carry on with my turbo project but im stick as i cant remember most of what i had planned...

can someone please help me as to what kind of boost pipe size i should go for? i think i was loooking at 2.5" before? but i noticed a lot of people have been using 2.25"

whats pros and cons of both? the 2.5" and the 2.25"

from what i gather, 2.25 will reduce lag

the smaller the pipe the less lag as posted, most on here are using 2" iirc?, im using 2.25 as i dont mind a little lag and everything ive spec'd up is 2.25, even the inlet on the throttle body, so the only reducer ill need in the system is at the turbo side, keeps the flow smooth which is a help, depends on the kit and spec you want to run

fair enough cheers for clearing that up guys... think a 2.25" kit should be good enough then! i aint going to be running a massive turbo but i will be changing pistons and rods to forgies... was thinking about 13psi maybe? would this be ok with 2.25"

what size is the exit pipe from the turbo unit? 2"? If 2" is big enough to run 300bhp --why go bigger and make life hard
no point in being anybigger than that ,except for last bit where it meets the t/body ,unless its for bling .it will make installation a lot simpler

you mean a fucking big one that will not fully spool up till you hit over 4k+--
what power you looking for --you sure you want the power to be like a switch ?and wheelspin city

john, you know very well you can spec a gt28 to spool up full boost less than 4k.. and it wont be like an on off swich.

but definately agree theres no point going bigger than 2" pipework.

GT25R makes a very nice set up. with around 250hp on tap, with minimal lag. a good choice for budget builds and will be reliable with just decomp plate @ 1 bar boost.

GT2860RS will see 0.5 bar of boost by 3500rpm, and 1bar by 4000rpm, and power levels to over 300bhp with correct supporting mods.

obviously both set ups, boost can be run at lower levels for nomal driving. and also if you invested in a boost controller like the gizzmo ibc-R. boost can be controlled via RPM, to make it come in smoothly over the rev range (or hard if you wanted)

as for charge piping, 2" is usually more than enough for most applications. if you intend to run lots of boost, lots of power, then 2.25/2.5" is required.

what do you intend to use the car for? i can usually spec something up to meet your requirements.

i have used it before, yes.

but generally i prefer the gizzmo. gives customers option for selectable boost memories and a built in boost gauge. they are also very fast to install and use.

ok, i wanted to use the omex facility first then when i can install a gizzmo later.
am i right in thinkiing id need to buy a 3 port solenoid to use the omex feature?

i would like to be able to use the car on the road but also be able to take it to track days etc...

as said i was thinking of something like the gt25/28 as driving on the roads it wouldnt be boosting much but when hard on the track it will be boosting nicely

and also as said by atspeed boost controller is always the way forward as i would like to use it for road and track i could just turn the boost up or down

i was thinking of 2.25" all round as i could then be a little future proof?

future proofing is always sensible. majority of people once bit, get the bug, and want more and more. that is main reason i future proof my component packages, so your not wasting money on parts that will only be suitable for 1 particular set up, they can be utilised later on too, or upgraded at minimal cost.

2.25 would be sensible. as long as you intend to keep the same intercooler package etc, otherwise you would be re-making charge piping anyway. also worth paying attention to when deciding on charge piping... make sure its a size that the silicone hoses are readily available for. especially when it comes to reducing elbows etc.

our stage 1 package would work well for you, but if you intend to track it, using some of the optional add-ons from the stage 2 package would be wise. e.g. drivetrain upgrades. but of course these cna be added on at any date.

so happy now i have my gti back! they had it 3 months+ tax and mot has now ran out, booked in for mot tuesday thou so hope all goes well!!
