Me neither I'd expect its quite a farse having to reach across all the time lol.

Its not that bad really, I've got long arms :-)

The reason was someone tried to break into my car, expensive head unit - I feel this is slightly less conspicuous and the blanking plate acts as a deterant, I hope, no ones tried breaking in since :-)
