You got your inertia switch sitting level? I know a friend of a friend who was fitting his strutbrace to his gti, moved the inertia, wasnt upright, and he was just cranking it over and wasnt going, took him about 2 days to realise what he'd done! Worth a shot anyway, take 2 secs to check

UPDATE
Right, have given the pump a live feed from the battery, turned ignition on and the pump primes, car starts and runs.
however, take this live feed away turn the ignition and the pump wont prime....
this means the battery cables ive made up are ok, the earths are all ok, fuses and relays are ok and the pump is ok!
any ideas?

Can you bypass the inertia switch?

we have tried a different inertia switch already but didnt make a difference?!
also bridged the wires for inertia and made no difference

also the multimeter has just told us there is no power to the 10amp fuse in the engine bay which is for the fuel pump?
if i give the 10 amp fuse a direct 12v feed the fuel pump becomes active?!

Can you check from the ignition end that there is a supply voltage present? This will tell you is its something silly like a break in the wire.

on the larger engine bay fuse box, should there be an ignition or constant live feed to the 10mm terminals at the end of the fuse box?

Car now runs..... Fuel pump primes when ignition turned on. However continues to prime?!
Let the car run for 5 minutes or so as hasn't run for a while, small water leak on turbo return to sort out.
Going to turn attention to the interior now.... Pics midweek

How long is it continuing to prime for?
After I changed my engine it was priming for 20 odd seconds, until i had started a few times. Now its shortened its priming time again to a couple of seconds.

Ah right.... Well it seems to prime for up to a minute or so if ignition left on first position? Only started it the 2 or 3 times so maybe needs a few more goes?

Sounds like bodged loom splicing to me.
I can only speak for my 106 (97 1.6 XS) but the wiring is not going to be worlds apart.
From what I recall, the fuel pump live should be turned on and off by the brown relay under the ECU in the engine loom. That then feeds power back to the fusebox, through the pump fuse and to the pump.
To make it painfully clear, the power goes...
Battery live - Engine loom multiplug - brown relay - Engine multiplug - fusebox -fuel pump - ground
On my current car the permanent live goes to the brown relay pins 8 & 11, and it returns fuel pump (and lambda sensor) power on pin 1. An interesting test would be to see if your lambda sensor fuse in the engine bay is getting power, as apparently it runs off the same power feed from the relay.
Will of course triple check this tonight when I get in from work, so take the above as provisional.

Thanks for the detailed reply mate.... Printed some wiring diagrams off in work today and had a look. My fuel pump relay under the ecu tray is black not brown so power is directed slightly differently (checked as I have a brown one here)
The fuel pump relay takes the power in, before switching it into the ecu via pin 7. This is then switched back into the relay (which should turn the fuel pump off priming).
However the pump continues to prime? The power to pin 7 also energises the ignition coil via pin 3 on the black 4 pin plug, I have checked this pin and am getting a good 12v feed when the pump is priming, making me a little confused as this would suggest the relay is working in both of it's functions?!
The fuel pump must be getting a constant live from somewhere as it will not stop priming, will spend more time on it tomorrow night now

Problems sorted...... Well kind of! The kms management apparently constantly primes the fuel pump, so weekend wasted with wiring diagrams and the multimeter!! Oh well at least it's running.... Now onto the interior
Big thanks to Ryanmt and nickhead for pointing this out!

Havent spent much time on the car over the last few weeks, but planning to have it on the oprad by the end of jan now...... been looking a the best way to mount the kms ecu, map sensor and driver
Also, is anyone using a safety devices cage? have finished my mounts now however, when mock fitting them and bolted to the cage, the rear mounts sit slightly high from the sill? The measurements were given to me by someone using the same cage.
Looking at this, i think its because if they sat flush with the sill there would not be clearance for the nuts that are welded underneath? has anyone got any pics of the rear mounts welded in or any suggestions?

Yes mate, will probably go to fcs for some track time, and trax too also
but mainly just some fun in the summer on the road, between 4-8 track days to get me going and maybe the ring depending on the performance of the car and of course funds....
