Default detailing question.

I have always looked after paint work, taking great care not to mark it or scratrch it when washing, then waxing. But ive always had cars with good paint.

Now however i have a car that looks like its been cleaned with a shammy i presume, or a dirty cloth ? In the sunlight the paint is covered in swirls and fine scratches.
an old lady owned the car for 8 years and although its in beautiful condition i think she must have let the grand kids wash it or whatever. . . . with a brillo : /

could somebody please recommend a really good compound for removing swirl marks.
Or infacrm a good paint care kit, the paint isnt in very good shape, though i can see its restorable.

cheers matt

Probably service washes that cause them marks, kids aren't as bad at washing as dealerships I've found haha . Dealership washed mine in march when it went for an mot after it hadn't been washed all winter and was obviously covered it grit and other shit, it was and still fucking is covered it swirls and other marks, cba to correct them as its a daily and its literally the whole car.

Anyway scholl s17+ on their orange foam pad if you are using a machine.

If by hand people have had good results using gtech p1. Personally only used menzerna polishes by hand and the effort and time it takes to achieve what you want just isn't worth it.

That's one thing I've always said! Having always had cars with good paint i could never be armed to spend £100s on polish and hours applying but this is bad enough i may give some a shot. thanks for those.

I use 3m cutting compound find it good for removing swirls, it's a 3 stage compound working down to finer grits and then a high glaze polish

If you don't want to get yourself kitted out why not seek the help of a detailed and pay the, in the region of 100-200 pound to fully detail the car with paint correction

I would rather learn and do it myself. Paint seems pretty simple really and realistically i can't justify paying someone £200 to polish a £1200

Polishing it self it quite easy but doing it electronicly can be tricky.
If you go to fast you can burn the paint..

With a dual action polisher it is very hard to burn paint you woul shave to hold these in the same spot on the paint for a fair amount of time

Look on detailing world in the machine polishing section this will help you
