Default Torsion bar lowering

I inquired about getting my bar raised at a local performance car shop. They said that they charge 120+Vat to lower any torsion bars.

I only want my 106 raised about 20mm and think that is stupid money for raising it slightly.

They also said something about putting a spline back in to make it higher. I have no idea what that means and was hoping someone could enlighten me.

Sounds like they dont know what they're doing if anyone ever mentions splines or seized.

And thats a silly price, i charge £60, and some other Affiliate members on here charge 75 which is still reasonable.

You've really gotta make sure you go to someone who has very good, extensive feedback with torsion bars.

I'm sorry but you should NEVER do a torsion bar the splines way.

It causes premature failure of the trailing arm bearing and it'll never be the correct height either side, not to mention pre-loading. Say no to splines or notches in any case, if you don't then you'll regret it.

Lol and how do you lower them then? ive done loads this way and all been packed out with grease never ever had a problem no alot of other people that do them this way and mine on my track cars which i would of thought will be under alot more strain have never cause me a issue...

You keep the trailing arms exactly where they are and remove both ends of the bar. I use a specific puller for this which never fails me, not even on a seized beam. Then you adjust the height, and refit the fully removed torsion bar which you've spent time cleaning up and greasing so it's easier next time and not driving rust into rust which seizes beams even more.

There's no need to laugh either, I'm sure 99% of the forum can safely agree without any laughing that the notch method f*cks your beam.

Ps, you're advertising without consent and that's against the rules.

You may have done this before, but you've now potentially ruined all those beams you've touched - if indeed you have. But the more I read, the less inclined I am to believe you know one end of a spanner from another I'm afraid.
