BT Infinity
So centuries later, they decided to upgrade the cables up in the deep Welsh valleys, so I'll be upgrading to fibre optic on the 24th of this month, wewt!
Just wondering if anyone else has Infinity, and whether or not you get the speeds they estimate for you.
My old man chose the 38Mb option, why when for £3 we could've got 76Mb I'll never know... but just want to find out if I'll actually get what we're being sold.
F.Y.I my current speed is 4.5Mb down and 0.5Mb up (Megabits not Megabytes just to add)... the pain

Anythings an upgrade from this crap bag!
Well the next village on does, but right where my village starts they stopped running the new cables through last year because it's not very populated
Think it was last week or so they actually came to do it, been spammed with Sky/BT letters in the post!

Depends on what you use your internet for, I had infinity 85 Meg, but daytime was slower than when I had 5 meg standard cable. BT are terrible for blocking internet and stuff. Since cancelling BT and going with Sky I have had constant 44 meg, all day and night and never had any drops.

Yeah the jump up is massive, personally I've had cable for like the last 8 years so can't imagine going back to 5mb, would be so grim

Yeah I've heard they knock you down at peak times on occasions etc. I did a price comparison with Sky and we would've saved over £130 a year! But we're tied into a contract with BT atm, so upgrading is the only option :/
It's atrocious... try downloading BF4 at 300kb/s average, took me like 14 hours if not more

How long are you tied for, because signing up to there fibre will then renew your contract again. Honestly my BT fibre was slower than my non fibre during the day. There help team are terrible, I had over 10 engineers to my house in under 5 weeks, they was sending me a new router every week, but never solving my problems, the only good thing was, when I complained I was getting reimbursed over 75% of my bill for quite a few months. But I would rather pay a little more and have a service that actually works.

We have it at my home and its a good job, can't fault it although my room is quite far from the hub so it would maybe disconnect the odd rare time.
Up in my house in Belfast I have virgin and its a great job too!

I haven't got it but I know people who have and they seem to get near the speeds advertised.
Its a step up from ADSL but it does still rely on the copper going from the local JB to your house but it uses a different technology called VDSL2.

I've not a clue mate my Dad deals with all things like that! Don't think we're going to bother changing around or anything like that tbh, we're saving money and getting much faster speeds so I can't really complain!
Agreed on the help team, some of them literally have no fucking clue what they're talking about. Restarting your router will solve every problem under the sun according to their feedback lol

I have the issue with disconnecting now, also doesn't help living in an old house with thick walls

I got the 76MB version in November.. It's really good i think.. Usually average around 40-45mb at mid day..
Just done a speed test now..
I can download films usually in under 5 minutes for a 1-2GB movie file..

Is that wireless or through Ethernet mate?
My dad and brother are big fans of footy so they'll be loving it, I'm not interested unless I've put a bet on haha

That is through my wifi, sat in my room, and the router is downstairs.. Although i have my XBOX on a cable connection to the router, just because i don't like to lose at FIFA by the network dropping.. Although i'm sure it wouldn't drop, as my laptop never does, but my old router when i was on 8MB used to, so i just don't trust it all together lol

It's horrible. Not helped by EA servers dropping out.. 10 games in a season, i needed 1 point to stay in the division.. 1 game left.. Winning 3-1, 87th minute.. "you have been disconnected from EA Servers".. Reconnect.. "It seems you left your last game before the end".. Instant 3-0 loss.. NICE ONE EA!
And don't even get me started on when someone has a shit keeper like Schezney, and i have 27 shots and 22 on target, 0 goals... I have Cech in net, 2 shots, 2 on target, 2 goals.. LOGIC

The latest Routers and Wireless cards use N technology so can achieve 100mb+ speeds anyway. Its rare people are connected at the old 54Mbps Wireless Speeds these days.
You will find that drop outs and poor speeds on Wifi are more likely related to poor performing Wireless radios in devices and interference on the 2.4Ghz frequency.
It makes me laugh how many people do a speed test on their phone and they expect the exact same result on their Xbox/PS3 but that's not how it works.
If reliability is more important than bandwidth, it may be worth connecting on the 5Ghz frequency as this has many more non overlapping channels and far less interference.

Well my room is half underground and the router upstairs so I suppose that doesn't help the situation lol. It only happened when I decided to move my room around too.
