Actually been making a bit of progress with this.

After finishing the welding on the rear arches, I felt it was time to get it in for an MOT test. I want to have the car road worthy for a few reasons really.

1) I want to know what the engine and gearbox are like.
2) It stresses me out having more than 1 immobile car at the house!
3) It'll be nice to have a back up car for the odd day when needed.

I'll be collecting as many genuine Citroen bits as I can over the next few years ready for stripping the car back to a bare shell for the full resto

Anyway, got the old girl loaded up on the trailer and dropped it off for the test.

It failed but not too bad at all really.

Tiny hole on a chassis leg, couple of balljoint boots etc. The biggest job was the lowering springs weren't compressing the top mounts properly under full droop. I was going to put the car back to standard ride height anyway but this just sped the process up!

9 days later...

It passed it's MOT with the rear lower than the front, 2 steel wheels on etc. Now that it's MOT'd I plan to tidy it up as best as I can ready for a few days out in the summer.

First up was to get the rear beam raised to match the standard height front. This didn't take long at all as fortunately whoever lowered the car previously had greased the bars up I've been very lucky as the pins on the beam are in great condition!

I must be getting old as I reckon it looks great back at standard ride height!

I also managed to obtain the cars original mirror caps and petrol cap off of a previous owner!! Whats the chances of that??

So bar fitting an orange side repeater that's about as tidy as I can the nearside for now. The bodykit is pretty bad but I have a brand new one tucked away for the rebuild.

Plenty to tidy up on the o/s next....

As a sidenote, I've written off to the DVLA with a V888 form so that I can try and trace some of the cars history. It's had 11 owners!

As a bizarre twist of fate, one of the previous owners caught site of the car on Facebook and made contact. I then ended up speaking to about 6 owners after him, all of them helping out with what they did to the car when they had it and supplying the odd photo. It's had a bit of a journey!

Once the documents from the DVLA turn up I hope to track down it's first 3 owners.

Have some pictures from it's past...

I'm really tempted to do this but thing putting me off is that I paid £400 for the car and it needs a new axle at about £250. Plus then standard exhaust and a few other bits means I'm technically wasting money.

I might have a change of heart further down the line but for now I plan to run it and leave it.

The way I see it all money spent on cars is 'wasted' whatever you do to it. It just depends what you get out of it and if its worth it to you

Depends how long you plan on keeping the car really? If it's a short termer then fair enough the finances don't make sense if your that way inclined. If its a keeper for at least a few years then go for it. They have started to creep in price already for good clean cars so a few years your costs should easily be outweighed.

See if that was the case then great.

Mine needs Axle, bonnet, drivers wing, standard exhaust, boot carpet, parcel shelf and rear wiper.

Then I would need to give the engine a good service and replace the gaskets on the rocker covers to stop leaking. I'll see what happens.

I'm going on holiday next year to Florida for 3 weeks which is bloody expensive so spending money is not something I can do until after then.

Might wait till MOT in October and possibly garage it.

My favourite colour, this is my second one, I had a crazy moment with my previous one sprayed the wheels bright yellow.

This one won't be going the same way.

Hi Dan,

not as such and in reality there probably won't be for a few years now. The car is as clean as it can be in it's current condition and I have got it MOT'd like I wanted to, so now it's 3 years of parts collecting ready for the concourse build. The car will be getting a full respray, up on a spit to be painted underneath etc. I really want to win some trophies with the little car

Parts collecting is coming along well already. Managed to track down piece by piece a full new body kit, genuine headlight protectors, badges, lights, glass, door seals etc...

If anyone has any of the following I would like to hear from you..

mk1 dash with passenger airbag and top cubby box
Original Citroen front rubber floor mats
Any genuine Citroen NOS parts
