Default French Rat

Well I've got started on it. Thought of just keep a post going instead of lots of different postings. 👍🏼

Swapped a MR2 for this Saxo.
😮
Mad you'd think. But upkeep of a Saxo is nothing compared to a sports car. And thus the disposable income can go back into it.

Anyway buff boring stuff. ☕️

1.1 Saxo forte. Starts, runs, no rust - for now!

Here she is when I got her

Some of the issues I had with getting a new motor.
Snapped alternator cable to the battery was one of them. 😡
Pads were shot.
Pipe to the TB was snapped so repaired.
Rank dirty engine bay which I've cleaned up.

Since then I've decided to "RAT" it. 👌🏻🖕🏼🍻

So new white wheels, steeelies of course. DIY jobby

Starting with the front panels. I never thought I'd say this. But BLOUDY HELL the paint is good, used countless of the roughest sanding sheets on the power tool to not get much paint off. Even a bit of brake fluid rubbed in to soften it then restart. Got there in the end. I wanted a camp rust look not a sheet of rust on the quarter panels.

Then realised the rear windscreen wash didn't work. A stuck valve.some photos of the job. It's very easy to do.

Rust setting in nicely by the time i get back to it a few days later

Next was the plastic front bumper. Being plastic it isn't rusting. So it needs painting the effect. This involves. Rust base primer spray paint. Black, white, Terracotta and yellow paint. And about 10 sponges and Matt laquer! Lots of dabbing and stopping and looking. But it's done and I'm chuffed with it !

Got a couple days off so going to be doing the rest.

Need a roof rack for a Saxo. Does anyone have one? Or know a cheap universal one which works? Of course it doesn't need to look in good nick 👍🏼😂😎

Let me know!! I've searched everywhere but they expensive considering I'm not really transporting anything haha.

Next is hazard tape and tint the front lights.

I want some new lowered front springs also I've got my eye on. Unless anyone here has some used ones going cheap!!

Thanks all. ❤️❤️

The main issue here would be describing an MR2, as a sports car.

😂😂Haha.

It is though. Known as the poor mans sports car due to being accessible to a large market and having a high horsepower, engine and drive layout etc etc.

Been a busy bee tonight. Didn't manage to finish the door. But started them.

Ran out of light and materials so that the nearly finished doors. Quarter panels will rust Eleventually. And the front bumper is too dark!!

Each to their own.
The joys of cars. 👍🏼
It's not finished, so by all means it's not quite a 'refined rat'.
But give it time and it will have a bit more to it than just the "rust"

I'm not called Jesus by the way 😂

Depends which one, I'd put our old MK1 up against most things in the twisties & our MK2 Turbo against most things in a straight line, the MK3 we had was another story.

You would be surprised to find out that rust is not a popular feature among car owners... Or even considered a feature for that matter, there is a difference between hate and common sense. At the end of the day it's your vehicle, but you might want to declare the change of colour to the DVLA and the modifications applied on the body to the insurance, before you get pulled over.

As of yet, No body modifications. Just colour.
Not surprised people don't like it, everyone's allowed an opinion.
I do have common sense, and think a lot of the haters have common sense too. Problem with common sense is it is open to opinion by the people who call the term into it and can sometimes lead to grey areas.
I for one do not see putting massive engines into small out of production hatchbacks something of common sense, but people do it anyway and There is some good reading for it.
But thank you for the guidance with the DVLA, I'm sure I'll be declaring it "brown" soon. 😂😂

After a look about. You need to inform the DVLA of body colour changes before 59%
Of the vehicle or is re sprayed, and/or the non removable body panels have been changed.
So for example a white with a newly resprayed black roof and black rear quarter panels would need a deceleration.
A white car with new black bumpers would not as they are removable and not 50% of car colour.

So I'm safe at the minute as
My roof and non removable panels
Are all original colour right now! 👌🏻👌🏻
