fuel pressure relief. On hot day.

If gasket was faulty, fuel lines would have bubbles.

Problem not solved. What does the black and blue plugs on the Bosch pump do?

Blue plug - electronic timing advance. it uses a 12v pulsed input from ECU.

Black plug - I am not sure.

after all your messing about --and getting nowhere --why not take it to someone who can plug into the ecu and set the timing correctly while engine is running --
they will also be able to see if the electronic advance is working as it should
on diesels smoke is caused mainly by incorrect timing or of course worn out engine parts like valve guides and piston rings
it will be timing of pump --could be pump is knackered --but proper timing set -up after doing other mechanical checks --like the valve clearances, proper injector testing is the way to go .
you changed the belt and have never answered if problem started after this --which makes me think it did --so it will be pump timing
I once had a car with only 8k from new+ under 1 year old and it would not start first thing --but after first start of day --fine --cause valve clearances too close ,but as engine warmed up the alloy head expanded and moved camshaft away from cam follwers--so then it had some clearance ,
vlave clearnces too wide --will alter valve timing as well --but more problems when they are too tight

I'm with you on the pump timing. it's not making sense.

Also, these have buckets and shims

The ECU is a pig on these. it has no feedback for the pump timing. it's a preset PWM signal for a given engine rpm and the rate of change of rpm from the crank sensor.

99% of the time pump timing if a diesel smokes

If the fuel pumping injection is not broken, the problem may because of leaking coolant. You may see more information and solution here:
