Default Saxo VTR MK2 Passenger side bulb holder issues

Good afternoon all

First post and recently acquired a Saxo VTR Mk2 in Poseidon blue as daily car. The far right bulb socket never worked and upon inspection didn't have a bulb fitted. Ordered the correct bulb and within 1 day the far left dual filament bulb stopped working.

The bulb holder itself was quite rusty as I suspect water has been getting into the passenger side taillight. I sourced a new bulb holder from a VTR which looks immaculate and fitted this morning and have replaced all bulbs. The same issue has happened with only the far left dual filament bulb coming on. With any setting of lights/ braking ect. Bearing in mind the driver side taillight and bulbs work perfectly.

What could be causing this and is it something a complete novice like myself could undertake?

Thank you

Just to add I have replaced and checked fuses starting with number 12 under the dash. But changed all for good measure. I have one more Bulb holder on its way just to make sure as managed to source 2 of them.

I'm assuming water has got into the brown connector plug? or the cables are damaged potentially? they look fine but are wrapped in tape so do not want to start pissing about with them due to how green I am when it comes to repairs.

The standard light wiring shouldn't be wrapped in tape there. Someone has been at it and made an arse of it I think. The wires are probably twisted together and have corroded or gone dirty.

The earth wire to that light is missing/corroded/not connected. That's why no matter what you do, indicate/reverse/sides etc only brake filament comes on.

It varies between model years, but if you're lucky, if you remove the plastic trim you'll see the earth bolt on the C pillar. hopefully it's just loose. you'll need a 10mm spanner, and a T20 torx screwdriver to get the plastic trim off.
