remaps are only really useful when you've buggered around with the valve timing (uprated cams) or want the engine to run off high octane premium fuels (beyond 97RON)
A remap adjusts the parameters of the fuelling and ignition timing throughout the entire rev range - this is done according to the charactistics of that particular engine.
Its worth mentioning that two mechanically identical engines will NOT perform exactly the same. Hence why remaps are better suited.
Some chips just piggy back the ecu... although generally ok, they arent optimised for that particular engine.
Ebay chip - just a smeggy resistor. fools the ECU, buggers your fuelling and engine.
