Well after the decision to go euro im thinking about what to do next, this month will see a new track rod end fitted and the tracking sorted (pulls to the left slightly), basically i want this car to be a mk1 version of Ben Chandlers old mk2 brown vtr on Schmidt wheels. Really not sure what to go for next, my plans for the car now are as follows:

Momo Steering Wheel
Smoothed Grille / Front Bumper / Rear Bumper
Leather Dash / Centre console / Vtr seat with custom headrests
Start Work on a new sound system with hertz components and sub
A Turndown tailpipe behind a smoothed bumper
Smooth out side logos
Custom number plate reccess?
Black roof (maybe a non sunroof version)
Respray bonnet to remove chips and get a bra for day to day driving
Get 60mm springs and dampers
8" wide Schmidt wheels? Or mabybe some branded steelies?
Smoothed Mk2 Spoiler
Black angel eyes
Maybe some custom leather work on some one off bits.

They are the major plans which i am aiming to be done by March / early april 2009.
So what do you lot thinkof the ideas and what should i get done first?
right then dude, lets sort this out from the beginning yea.

first things first, if you wanna be euro youve got to be really commited and when i say really i mean really, the amount of times i just thought fuck it because my plans have failed in my head and iv wanted to sell because of that or thought fuck it because i cant fund my plans is endless but i keep fighting back to prove myself wrong its immense so if you think you could put yourself through all that then get started.

as for your plans please think of other ideas i cant give you any ideas because then id be giving you my ideas lol but you need to think outside the box, the only thing id say go for is the "Momo Steering Wheel, Leather Dash / Centre console / Vtr seat with custom headrests, Start Work on a new sound system with hertz components and sub"

everything else needs a rethink to make your car individual i think too many people are copying chandlers look now and in order to have a unique car youve gotta be outside the box instead of following the trends, i mean if you parked mine and chandlers cars together 70% of the smoothing would be identical and i hate myself for it but thats about the only way of smoothing certain parts like doors side badges fog holes etc.

as for wheels find something slightly different or old school dont do the banded steelies everyones doing them atm, im only rocking steelies because i sold my 205 wheels cause i needed money, look around at other cars try and adapt some other wheels onto there or something like that or be gangsta and rock the old school audi trims that are smooth

exhaust try something different iv got a supersprint race system and i aint smoothing out the recess just because it looks good i like the pee shooter look.

bonnet bra yes iv got one but its only to protect my paint not for looks it only sees my car on dry days.

Smoothed Grille / Front Bumper front end you put up in the photo is identical to skorpions so try and change that a little bit to break the mould hes the only guy i know euroing a mk1 so give him his spot in the light and try and make your mk1 different.

60mm's not that low for the euro look im 60mm up front atm because of my mot but after that the coilovers will be slammed again and it'll be sitting on the floor yes its inpractical but youve gotta be dedicated to the look if you wanna do that look.

my only advise is keep the car as oem as you can, with some subtle smoothing and tidying up.

hope this helps you mate.

ive seen all the blood sweat and tears caused by lees car and i will agree with the stuff hes saying about it taking full comitment
no word of a lie ive talked him out of selling that car at least 10 times
and he still thinks it now sometimes

i think it could be a nice car but try and be unique with it
as lee said just copying the stuff youve seen doesnt allways work
im finding out atm that its going to be a lot of work to get a proper euro styled car done (im planning a 106) and getting it unique and to fit the style is hard

tbh euro cars arent practical really
and imo everybody is jumping on the euro bandwagon (woo im a hypocrite) and doing the same stuff

think a lil outside the box and your good
its like how yorkie smoother out his bumpstrips nobody had done that and it looks ace

come up with a few things like that and your golden

Bloddy hell lee thats an essay. Thanks for the advice, i have got a few little custome touches i want to add to the car to try and make it different but its very hard atm with alot of things allready being done, like as you said about the smoothing.
yes mate i am really commited aswell. been following the euro scene for a very long time now and know how much effort goes into it.
I dont want to make a carbon copy of Bens car just take a few styling ideas from it.
I would love to go down on coilovers but that will be fund dependant atm because it isnt somthing im looking to do right now maybe in a few months.

thanks for the advice it has helped

EDIT - Just going to keep it oem+ atmBut do fancy a fast road set up now

Danborambo - i sold the 1.4 (yes its a 1.4 flat arch lol) because i got a really good quote on a vtr with my ncb.

Exhuast wise i have the race system also but am looking to get a turned down end on to go with a smoothed rear bumper.

Really got to think outside the box atm, and for the record i dont like bra's for the "look", really dont get that, its only to protect the paint.

thanks for the advice it has helped

Danborambo - i sold the 1.4 (yes its a 1.4 flat arch lol) because i got a really good quote on a vtr with my ncb.

aha you sent me a pm asking my opinion i tried to help my hardest lol and shortest way but that kinda failed.

what i did was tried to work on everything else first then i started on suspension and iv left wheels till last well till the very last so far.

i worked on paint and smoothing first, then interior well technically i brought my gti leather while working on the paintwork etc, then i tidyed a few things up to make sure she stayed running right, then i started treating stuff under arches etc, then the other day i slammed it with the help of a few mates.

so yea wheels are the last thing aha iv already got my wheels to tell a lie there sitting in my shed but i like to wind people up so yea im telling anyone.

all will be revealed before show season.

Already getting a new track rod end and getting the tracking done saturday as it pulls to the left, booked in for a service next month so no need to worry about that till then. Did ideally want a momo steering wheel and boss but dont know if im gona have enough. Hate part time jobs

EDIT - may wait to after the service to do anything more with it. But i have got my eye on a Machine Polisher

**OOO Whats This?**

This morning, as soon as i stepped into the shower, the posty knocked the door with a package for me.
Wonder what this is:

Can you guess what it is yet? The lovely rice crispy packaging the i always expect with the guy's at cyc.

My dog after he just ate some of the packaging!:

Ooo Dual action polishing anyone:

Menzerna Polish's and pads.

I will give a full review of the Kestrel DA when the weather dry's up and i can wash the car then put it under the cover. As i know a few of you on here have reserved judgement untill reviews are wrote. But it looks and feels like a very good DA. Quite impressed that its a straight plug and play jobby into the mains.

Thanks for looking.

First Detail

Woo finaly finished earlier today. Sorry i have no before pics and the after pics are very good as i havnt got hold of my d40 yet (xams prezzie).
Here goes:
Steps Taken are as follows in order:

Rinse with jet wash on low setting
Spray mix of Tar remover and degreaser (1:2) Around lower parts of cars and parts with sevire tar spots and tough grime including wheels.
Pre Soak With maxi suds before a slight rinse with a hose
Wash using 2 bucket method using megs gold class and a sheep skin mitt.
Rinsed with hose
Clayed entire car using megs clay bar and a mix of detail spray and water (50:50)
Wash using 2 bucket method using megs gold class and a sheep skin mitt.
Rinsed with hose
Dryed with microfibre towels
-Moved onto wheels while the last little bit was drying
Washed wheels with a microfibre mitt and megs brush, washed with megs gold class and a slight bit of degreaser mixed in to shift brake dust.
Rinsed with hose
dryed with microfibre and then waxed with dojo juice (wheels are painted so no alloy wax / sealant needed)
And some cheap tyre care stuff that i worked in.

Tackled the door jams / shuts with the same tar remover and degreaser as first used on the car and applyed with megs slide lock brush, then wiped off with an old microfibre towel.

Exhaust was treated with megs metal polish.

Now i cracked out the Kestrel DA. Working a panel at a time i started working on the bonnet with the finishing pad and softest cut polish but worked down to achieve results by removing swirl marks. Ended up having a quick pass with a cutting pad and power gloss polish then worked back up to a softer pad / polish combo to finish. I did this for the bonnet, roof and a few bad scratch / swirl marks on the car but found that most came out with a finsihing pad and medium cutting compound afetr a few passes.
With the kestrel i spread the polish on speed 2 then worked it in on speed 4 (speed 5 was used for very deep scratches but 4 was more than enough on most places), Then buffed off by hand with a clean microfibre
Overall the kestrel is very good value for money and is very good quality for a plug and play DA. Would really recommend to anyone wanting a good affordable DA polisher.

The i used Sonus SFX-3 as a sealent over the polish and applied that with a finishing pad on speed 3 (spread firstly on speed 2) as i didnt want to work it in too much at this stage.

After this i Applied Dojo Juice to the entire car by hand leaving it 5 mins before buffing off with a clean microfibre. ( only left some on for 3 mins as it was in the sun and i find that it drys out too quickly if left for the full 5 mins)

Then a quick coat of Sonus SFX-3 was applied by hand to door jams to keep the looking good.

Windows where then done with AutoGlym Glass Care which was worked in with a glass microfibre towel.

-The interior was given a quick wipe over with a damp cloth with a mix of detailing spray and water and carpets etc hoovered.

All bumpers were rubbed with Jack Daniels bumper car ointment. (Well some baby oil i put into an old jack daniels bottle because the other broke.

As a finishing touch i went around the bottom half of the car with a fine mist of chemical boys synthetic detailer, ive found this helps keep future tar spots at bay for a little longer (prob my imagination but i think it helps)

Well thats all my essay done, Pics always speak louder so here goes:

p.s. I also removed my fogs ^ because i was going to smoke them in a few days, but what do people think of them removed? Keep them out or smoke them?

Thanks for reading

Sam & MrN

oh yeah, didnt notice that, never do tbh.

Little update is that last weekend a new strut arrived so we set about changing them as the top thread was threaded and the nut was coming loose. Now its done its all nice and tight and has got red of a slight knocking noise.
Service is on the 6th as well as finaly getting the tracking done. So its all looking good.

Ive taken great interest in the VW / Dub scene over the course of this year and am taking a few ideas from them. Want this car to look good and still driveable day to day (hence only going down 40mm). Hate to say it but im wanting a VW more and more

Thanks for taking interest

HOW FOR NOW from MrN

*****Serious Suspension*****

Been a while guys, sorry but ive had alot to do as the car came back with alot of advisories on its service. But ive just finished fixing them and picked soem goodies up saturday:

Pugsport Gravel Spec Dampers / Falkner 225lb springs / Group N top mounts
pic:

On the left is a standard spring for comparison. Top mounts arnt pictured.
Next thing to do is get it through its MOT, then some new tax
Then i can get the rest of the suspension goodies and spend a weekend fitting it all.
Still to come is :
Grp N rear dampers
Replace bushes all round
Upper and lower strut braces
Thicker torsion bars if i have the cash spare, if not they will be added at a later date this year.

Thanks for reading.
