For anyone who is going down the same line as myself here's just a picture to show you the difference between Ford's own Magnum Grey and a Paint Shop Magnum Grey.

The right side one is Ford's own... I personally think this would go better with the Two Tone's Grey.

-----------------------

Got one of the VTS rims on today I think it looks good but I stand by what I said above

-----------------------

Here's what I found when I took of the passenger side front wheel ... shocking

Have not ended up getting the it resprayed before I had the though of changing the colour.

Still stand by with what I say though I think it would look very similar to the TT grey.

I have a picture of the wheel on it's own so I could prob do a Photoshop to show the difference.

Major change on the alloy front now the colour is changing, to the Ford Magnum Grey.
Before

After

It was a great day today here so I was able to get some work done to the Saxo ... Even though I was actually working.

Here's what I got done today ...De-pinned, Fixed Door, Fitted Hose kit, Fitted Front Pads & Discs.

Never took any pics of the pads & discs, de-pinned or the door.... School boy error. Took the picture of the hose kit though (post it later)

Finally have the time to lacquer the rest of the 'S' rims and hopefully have them on for this Friday when I do the rear pads.

The bay needs a serious douse of APC

The hose kit was bought here from CHIP .. click me, piss easy mod took two minute to do.

When I finally get all the 'S' rims on I'll be a happy man.

A 8v Rocker Cover is comming my way and it will be cleaned, stripped and painted (same as the wheels)

Really need to sort out some more hoses (Samco or Spoox) yes they will be blue.

Started to think about the calipers and the painting of ... but I'll do that when I have 266mm calipers and they will be Yellow

Here's an old picture from the archive with me changing the Drop Links...

Strut Brace Time

I've been meaning to start this thread and start this brace but because it's been really busy at work I haven't had the chance to get stuck into it. But now I have ... I'm using 6mm thick 304 stainless steel plate. You dont need to use stainless steel or even as think as 6mm. I have seen other braces using 3mm thick plate.

First Off

The shape and design of the pad ... All I can reveal it has been borrowed from a well known Italian steering wheel manufacturer (not Momo) ... thanks Steviee90, I will make a template once I have finished and upload it as a full sized image (downloadable) so others who want to use the pad design.

Cutting

I used a grinder to cut out this piece nothing really too technical about this step so I won't go into it much. Just remember to use a sanding disc to smooth off all the edges...

Drilling

The next step was drilling the two normal holes which were drilled at 8.5mm, the slotted holes are also 8.5mm but because I'm in the engineering industry I was able to put it into the punch (so much easier than drilling a few holes the using a small file to smooth off the holes)

Finishing Touches

Because I'm lucky enough to work in the industry I was able to use a plasma arc to cut out the hole for the top of the strut. If someone who doesn't work in industry is trying to do so I would advise using a 50mm metal holesaw to cut it out and try and bore the rest out using a rough file.

Forgive the rough looking holes as I haven't finished my ones but I felt I should get a crack on with making this strut brace. Make two of these and your golden ... thats you made the two pads for the brace

Next Step

Angled Flat Bar

The Flat Bar is 30mm at it's highest point and 10mm at the lowest, the full measurement is 135mm with two bent angles (which one again I will put in a downloadable content). It's basically 45,45,45 for each of the three sections.

Totally forgot about taking pictures so please forgive as I will add more pictures later as I have another set of angles.

How does it look ?

Cross Pipe

As you can see I'm making it all in stainless steel, finally I have found some 3/4" stainless pipe.

As you can see I have finally started on the cross pipe part to span over the engine.

Sitting nice in the bay...

Hopefully be in the workshop soon so I can bend the angles ... not to sure if I will either use a hydraulic pipe bender or heat bend the pipe.

Well I've been having fun with blasting sand, Propane & oxygen burning nozzles...

Tomorrow i will be polishing the above pipe (will post a picture of it cleaned up when its been done), hopefully have it all complete for friday afternoon.

The angles aren't that far off they might just need some fine tuning.

Now this is finally finished and here is some bay pictures

If you want to check out the full set of pictures for the start to finish of this strut brace click here.

So I stripped down one of the calipers and I have to say it was quite an experience.

Before

It is a single bolt Bosch caliper, so I took off the retaining bolt so I could separate the two parts of the caliper. This then brought me to my first problem ... How can I get the piston out ? Well because it wasn't being used I wasn't able to pump the brake peddle and make the piston pop out. So with a little help from Google I decided to use compressed air to pop the little bugger out ... And it certainly did that, turned the valve on and then bang. so basically once I did that I was more or less trying to take away old seal, cleaning up the piston and piston chamber.

The main seal or "boot seal" of the caliper was an absolute pain in the ar$e to get out, basically had to take a oxy-acetylene torch to the rubber and the metal backing plate of the seal.

So I will be on the phone to either a Peugeot parts dealer or Bigg Red Calipers for the seals, but I think I will wait until I take apart the other caliper (need to make sure the piston isn't pitted)

Will finish this later as I need to wirebrush, paint and fit new seals

Stage one .... Base coat

Haven't been in the country to do anything now for the past year, I'm lucky to have two weeks every four or so months, just enough time to enjoy it with the kids.

As you know I now have 106 GTI leathers but they are currently in the garage until I get back (should be July), Smoked rears but still waiting for them to arrive (but that's another story) 266mm brakes will be sent away and rebuilt professionally at Bigg Red.

Hopefully when I get back in July I will have been able to do a lot more than I have over this past year as its almost criminal that the little terror has been sitting there doing nothing.

Plan is...

106 GTI leathers in
Either new carpet or clean the one it's currently inside it
Suspension overhaul front and back depending on money.

Because I'm work in heavy industry (pipefitter/welder) and I wanted a project. It gave me something to do when I was bored.

I will prob do something similar again depending on which way I go on the engine. Manifolds aren't exactly a hard push to make its just time consuming when your doing it 30mins at a time or when you get moved about from site to site it becomes harder. Prob gonna either buy a TIG welding plant or borrow one from my previous employers (uncle and cousin still work for them so it's no hard push)

Just to add a bit of light into my situation I have been away since Feb last year... Came home in July to basically move house (so I done that basically single handedly as my wife looked after our three boys) so any crap or stuff we didn't have time to put in the loft got flung into the garage. So when I get back I'm trying my best to help my wife keep upto date with everything that she hasn't been able to do because I'm not there.

Sorry for stealing this from Roper's progress thread but if you look closely turbo manifolds aren't exactly hard to make especially this one as they are using factory formed 90 degree elbows... the hardest part is the collector at the turbo. Just need to find places to make the manifold flanges in stainless.

-----

Rather than bump this thread with recent purchases I decided to just do an edit...

Jesus Grab Handles

July's plans will be basically to get the car on the road again (MOT, Tax, Insured as right now it's SORN at my parents ... Didn't have a driveway before)

GTI Leathers in
rip out the carpet power wash it
Take out the sound deadening material put down some dynamat or similar product
Door pods if I have enough time

So I've been cleaning out the photobucket and seen a few things that I haven't put on this for one reason or another (either too busy or just wasn't using SaxP at the time)

So here we go...

One day I had been hearing the exhaust make one hell of a racket so I was driving to work went over a sleeping policeman and bang... Then it wouldn't pull away and was sounding like a tractor, the cause ?

This

Was glad that happened because this was on the straight through pipe

So that lump of shit was changed over for this ...

Supersprint straight through section.

Couple of photos of it underneath

Then came this

Really need to clean that out when I get back any ideas for cleaning that out ?
