Just a little update today.
I finished getting the stuff out of the boot, I am guessing it was some sort of a rust preventer. It was an aboslute pain in the ass to get it off, took ages! Came across another bit that needs welding up (pic 2). It's right where the rear axle is attached so will need to get that welded up too.
I then got rid of the rust in the boot, was only a little bit of surface rust which didn't take much to get rid of.
Then gave the interior a clean as it was covered in dust and that will be all now till next weekend!

Bought some wheels which came today Lovin' em! Recently recon'd and came with brand new maxxis tyres. I know the car isn't even running yet but I snapped them up while I had the chance (and money!)
Have also bought another fog light for the rear as the lense on the current one is smashed.
So far the to do list stands at:
Source a gasket set for the current engine
Get welding done
Save up and buy a coilover kit
Respray the engine bay
Put it all back together and get it T&T'd!
A pic of one of the wheels.

Nah plans have changed for now. I am going with a bit of a rat look to it! I have always wanted to have a rat look car and with this being how it is, I figured why not just leave it as it is for now? Tbh the paintwork on it comes up nice after a good clean it's just the surface rust that stop it from being 100% clean.
I will hopefully be picking up 2 front recaros for it this weekend. Apart from that haven't got anything planned for the interior as of yet.
Most of my plans I had for it have changed just to pretty much get it on the road for a few months, enjoy it and do some saving to do something crazy with it next year e.g. engine conversion, respray etc.

Ah I see the sax-p support community has come out in force once again!
I wouldn't say it is going full rat tbh. I am just leaving the body as it is with the surface rust etc untill I can actually afford to get it sprayed. Money doesn't grow on tree yaknow!

No one is saying that.
There is no point in starting some thing then realising that you are in over your head. All you are doing is giving up. With the rust that you have found in the engine bay is less than a couple of hours of work for me to weld up and fix so if you were learning on it like you are you are talking a sat morning to do. Even if you have the worse looking wleds in history you can clean them up with a grinder.
Just don't give in. Its all too easy to say you are going for the rat look.

I'm not giving up so don't worry lol. Most of the rust in the engine bay is gone. That I don't mind spraying myself and which I will be doing myself as no one will hardly see it so it doesn't have to be the best job. It's the outer body work I am on about which will cost me to have it done professionally.
Welding is being done by the same guy who done it on my mates XR2. If I were to give it a go how much would a welder set me back? It's not me giving up, I just want to have some fun out of it. All my plans for it will still happen just not as quick as I hoped for them too.

Not a big update, but now I have purchased a pair of front Ford Recaros and a FlowFlex bush set for most of the moving parts!
The seats are in near mint condition with a couple of marks.

lovely car mate!!!! will be keeping an eye on this
I think you'll be daft to 'rat look' it, its a 33 year old car,
but that decision will be totally up to you, anyways keep up the good work!

Yeah kinda scrapped that rat look idea. Ive always wanted to do it for a laugh and just thought while in its current situation it would be ideal, yet what i would want to do to it would take too much to put it right again. Id rather have a clean car tbh. Ive got myself a spray gun and going to attempt a respray (in the same colour) but that is a way off yet as welding still needs doing and need to clear the underside.
