Ive been playing in the garage again now trying to breath some life back into the front grill which seems to be a bitch for fading and going grey.
I used loads of trim gel and black shoe polish worked in for an hour or so (tiring stuff) with the heat of a hairdryer to help it along.
Looks much better now
Also got this beauty ready to be fitted at the weekend A Nissens GTi radiator.
Its been running a little hotter recently so hopefully this will keep temperatures in check.

Cheers mate, still runs sweet as.
Untill tonight that was when the battery decided to give up. I jumped it off my mates van but it just died again after a few mins. No ignition lights or anything. Had to leave it at his place a few miles away untill i can get a battery sorted tomorrow. Damn cars eh!

Got the new radiator fitted today. A few pics..
I managed to snap the thermostat housing bleed screw off in the process too
Its the second time its happened now and both times when undoing it lol.
First time i replaced the whole housing but this time i managed to use a little stud extractor to get it out and replaced it with a normal 10mm bolt to stop it happening again.
Ive got to say so far it seems a lot better than the standard one, it took over 20 mins for the fan to cut in when i ran it up after fitting it. It took like half that time with the standard one. The temperature gauge sits a tiny bit lower than before now too, just below half way.
Id reccomend to anyone

Taking the 'box into work tomorrow to crack the case open. Going to give it a good once over and provided all is well it will be going in on saturday.
Anyone know what sort of gains/losses are to be had going from a vtr to vts box? Obviously i know better acceleration and less top end but to what kind of extent?
Cheers

Bit of an update on the gearbox front.
The 'so called' VTS box i bought from a member on here turns out not to be a VTS after all. I looked for a code on the box to make sure it was the right one but there was no code whatsoever. With the help of my boss we worked out the ratios and thanks to some helpful people on here realised it was a late VTR box
It has the same sports cluster as all the sports boxes (VTS/Rallye/XSI etc) but a very long final drive (3.588:1)
Luckily my boss is good friends with John at Car Gears in Woodley. A quick phone call later and it turns out he he has many spare FD's from MA boxes just lying about
As far as better perfoming ones go i had a choice between VTS, S2 rallye and a 1.4XSI FD.
I went for the S2 rallye as it was in the middle of the two with a ratio of 4.06:1 and he let me have it for next to nothing! Well chuffed with it now really, just cant wait to get it fitted!
I suppose its true, every cloud has a silver lining! lol

Bad luck with the box fella, although ya got lucky with knowing the right people it'd seem.

Yeah the cam is awesome tbh, on paper it looks quite mild but ive seen a few make similar figures. Made that unmapped too. The RR printout is a page or two back.
I was gutted when i realised the box was wrong, felt proper stitched up lol. Im chuffed with it now though

Quick Update!
Had a quiet afternoon at work today so managed to get my car in and fit the gearbox.
Ive only done a couple of mile on it so far but first impressions are good. The revs pick up alot quicker than on the VTR box and acceleration feels much improved through all the gears. I suppose time will tell how much it hurts MPG but im not too concerned about that tbh. Yet to go on the motorway but i do very little motorway driving anyway.
