computer dilemma...
basically me and my girlfriend are going to new york this summer and i have been saving quite hard to be able to afford an apple laptop. however its kinda hit me that i will have to spend about £1200 to get the set up i want for my laptop. i looked at a desktop apple and they are real nice and impressive, and start at £1000.
are apple computers worth it??? or should i invest in a top of the range sony vaio for around £750??
just general chat and help would be great.
cheers

porn
i joke.
me and my girlfriend are in to our photography, so are attracted by aperture (but its a $200 extra) we both use it ALOT for our work, and its on 24/7 just for general computer shizzle.
and apple seems to cost loads for the extra software. yet so attractive.

Adobe Photoshop > all photo editing programs. Get a reasonably well spec'd windows 7 based laptop like £500+ on ebuyer.com and you won't have any problems. And speak to a pirate about some free photoshop lol

I work in IT & am completely anti-apple.
I can't stand them as a company.
Although if you want to do loads of photo stuff, web design etc a mac WILL be better.
I still wouldn't buy a mac though. You could always buy a cheaper decent spec laptop that is easily hackintoshable

Save yourself a fortune and hassle if you machine does blow up and get a PC. Windows 7 is awesome (I have it on 3 machines and it's fine on all of them) If one bit blows up you can just replace that bit rather than having to send it away to a mac shop and possibly lose all your data... and best of all:Your normal to have a pc... macs are for art fags these days.
No I'm not bias, I've had macs in the past, there good and all but if they go wrong, god help you!

I'm going to get my Macbook Pro tomorrow, I never thought I would have one as PC's do the jobs you need just aswell, but for a proffesional aspect like photography or in my case producing music, it is the best option to go for!

apart from the shit updates and crashes.
given the choice id love a mac but for everyday ease of pissing about with the pc does win. just not with windows.

Apple do their job well, but the hardware is overpriced and I can't stand apple fan boys that think their Mac is the be all end all. It has issues exactly the same as a pc does, and when some part does give up the ghost you can't just replace it yourself.
Your paying for superior asthetics and brand recognition, thats about it.

Ive used 3 before and they were all pretty much overpriced crap tbh.
