Default Bought A VTS Engine

Basically last month i did a saxo VTS engine conversion. I fitted it with one of my mates and the engine run sweet for a month until the cambelt tensioner cam loose and broke the engine. Then i searched every scrap yard near me looking for an engine with no luck. So i then went on ebay and bought one from a guy who said it had just come out of a running car. It looked really clean on the one photo provided and the guy said it was clean on the phone. Now he personally drove up and delivered the engine to me in the dark even though he said it was coming by courier. i looked over the engine in the daylight for the first time today and i just dont think the engine in the picture on the advert is the same as the one he sold me.
So basically does this engine look like its been stood for some time as i think it does
Thanks

Here is the advert photo

Here are the photos i took today

Looks like an engine mate, the rocker covers look the same as in pic. You never no how LNG the car has been stood. I have a 8v removed 2 days ago and looks the same with some surfice rust

Engine numbers is going to be the only way to check, but if you didnt ask before then you are buggered. I'd be inclined to pull the head off and inspect everything

I'd say thats not the same,
You would be able see the blue oil filter in engine bay as it would stand out, the oil cap yellow paint has been half rubbed off and the torx bolts on the cam covers are much more rounded off.

Looking at it more that is not the same, look at the patterns on the cam covers

for me its the dipstick...... shiny clean vs grimy dirty oily.....
doesnt mean it hasnt been stood for a while since removing

no matter what your gonna wanna do timing belt/water pump/tensioner i'd also check and reseal cam covers or swap to jp4's look for oil signs on the cam ladder seal, check cam seals, drop oil pan check oil pump and chain, clean sump. so might as well degrease the whole block

just the basics of fitting a used motor

I got back in touch with him and he has now said that the engine was in the car with no altenator on it with no bonnet for 6 weeks. I was never told this before i bought it and for nearly £300 i expect a much better quality product. So im going to get him to collect it

No chance would i even consider fitting it. What a mess.

At least you've sorted it.
