try removing the hard drive and see if it starts up ok. if it then fails when you put the hard drive back in you know that is the problem. i had to replace mine a few months back. you can kiss good bye to all your game saves too

Only the single most common problem with the xbox on this forum or in the whole world. Hmm can't believe search and google both return nothing
On another note it's gubbed. How long have you had it? Microsoft extended the standard warranty to 3 years fir the three lights issue. So if it's less than 3 years old it's covered free. If nit there are various solutions kicking about that I don't know enough about to explain

or u could take the hard drive out wrap it in a few towels turn it on for about 20-30 mins so it basicly overheats then unwrap turn it off put the hard drive back on and turn it on should work i done that for about a year until i was having to wrap it for like an hour and it finally fried haha

I thought the rrod was due to the x clamps inside where they use shit thermal paste.
You basically open up the xbox, undo the cpu and cpu then take the x-clamps of clean them and use some more thermal paste connect it all back up.
unplug the fan and let it run till it cuts off (Might have to do this more than once), then put it all back together and it should work.
It definitely isn't a long term fix can range from days to months but worth a go if its out of warranty and you want it working till you get a new one and for the sake of like £3 of ebay its worth a go.
Its worked for a couple of my mates I done a few months ago and still is but only worked on mine for a hour or so

Alternatively, it could work for the same amount of time as my old one. About 4 hours, and when I wrapped it up again, it still didn't work...

mates had rrod took it off him bought the kit from eBay 4quid took it apart put it back together in under an hour has been working since must of been a year ago now, and i play it alot.
£45 is steep to fix it, as you can get a second hand one from game nearer that price, i'll sort it for £15
