finally got round to seeing what you were banging on on about with this shell mate. looks like a real good base. i;m gonna have to up my game somewhat.
me and paul from ghost developments were discussing the conversion over a brew the other day, he's confident we have the means to do it. he can weld, i'm stupid enough to try and his mate is a wiring guru. oh and i know a lad whos dad makes custom drive/propshafts for a living. so could be more than a little tempting.
rumour has it tho that tghe b16b is a destroked b18 so if that'd fit i could get an aero deck for everything we'd need then hack the shit out of it and break the rest. lsd as standard too. sounds tempting eh?
once the blue one is on the road i have some shit to sort on the white rallye, take some more wire out the loom, rebuild the beam, paint the interior etc then i might look into this conversion some more. ya know, unless i can wedge in an evo lump lol

After having Toyah's mk1 sat on my drive for last few day's i now kinda wish mine was a mk1 Look's so much neater and 'racey'.
If (god forbid) i ever happened to have a front ender in mine, i'd seriously consider a mk1 front end transplant!

AND as i found out yesterday, as it's a mk1 you can put as big and thirsty an engine in it as you want and the DVLA can't tax you more for it.
I rang them to see if fitting a newer engine to mine would drop the tax as the emissions would be lower. The guy said because it was registered before March 2001 (introduction of he new licence plates) the tax is fixed and any engine swaps etc. do not affect the level of tax payable on the car.
Rear engined 3.0L twin turbo anyone?

^^ that cant be true as when i registered my xsi as a 1.6 engine i have since been charged the 1.6 tax band and not the 1.4....
also if u dont declare it your insurance wont be valid as most bring it up on a database.....

It is true mate. I rang the DVLA and spoke to a guy called Graham. i asked "If i fitted a newer, lower emission engine to my car, would this lower the tax i would pay each year." His reply was exactly "No, Your car is on the old registration plates and was registered pre-March 2001. This engine you fit won't make a difference to the tax you pay."
Thinking about it now though, how would they have worked out the tax to start with, it must be off engine size??? I think you may be right... I'll have to ring them back! Unless they use engine size brackets i.e. less than 1L upto 1.4L is one price then 1.4L uto 2L is another price, for example.
I'll deffo ring them back later and see what they say about that. You got me thinking now.

gonna be another epic project craig. But if ur going to such weight saving lenghts as cutting wiring out the loom etc, surley you can get lighter wheels for weight saving & unsprung weight? s2 steelies sprayed black maybe even wheel trims, true sleeper!

Still "weighing up" the wheel options tbh.
I have a few sets of steelies which I could use, but still really fancy keeping it looking almost completely OE.
Also toyed with OZ Ultras in 15s.
hmmmm decisions
