To satchshift or not to satchshift?
Only other purchase I'm looking at before building the car back up before a few track days is whether to buy and fit a satchshift or not....
Either I do and fit it
Or I buy a normal quick shift and new alloy linkages
Not sure what to do? Undoubtedly if I don't go for one I probably will down the line so may aswell do now..... Has anyone got any actual on track reviews of these?

I suspect the problem is on the gearbox itself --top gear box arm has a roll pin which wears, so if you move the lever on the box and feel the shaft in the centre it will be sloppy --hit it with the mig welder --you never need to remove this arm even for a rebuild

Going to add some input into this and also back up johns point stated in another post.
Friend of mine got a kit... fitted it to an S1 diffed rallye box (fully rebuilt)... 1300 miles later box is being rebuilt because of the sync rings are gone. First i have heard of this happening... but if it does happen you do not want to be stripping boxes for rebuilds for the sake of a few seconds a lap in none competition....

Yer have heard a few gear box with these fitted that they are harder on the syhrco rings.
Not saying it bad, but have heard a few cases now, but that could be down to driving style.
But remembering these are not design for a daily car, just aim at motorsport track driving.
I might get one but not on my must list at the moment.

People do the same with any 'quickshift'; slamming the car into gear as fast as possible.
As long as you understand you do not have a sequential or lug drive gearbox you will be fine. These kits give a shorter movement but you still have to allow time for the parts to engage correctly. Really the naming is a bad thing as the mechanically naive do not understand the implications.

This is very true. But to be honest, i used to smash the hell out of my old S gearbox for a good 3000 miles and nothing went! He had done under half that in his satchshift.

I'd definitely recommend a satshift for a track car, I'm not sure if you would want one for a daily driver though

Why would you not want one for everyday?
Been looking at getting one for BE although when cars boosted with BE fitted it wont be used everyday like it is now but i hate the standard shifter setup, just floppy and not very precise gearchanges.

I personally wouldn't want to use one on a daily basis, let alone cut the chassis of a daily driver. On a track car / weekend car is a different story, they are epic

You can but you would have to change your driving habits to allow the synchromesh to engage nicely. Standard gearboxes should never be rushed...

They look epic plus you know there going to be because colin and sandy have built them.

Is this mostly due to the fact the linkages are solid or is because the whole system is tighter than standard?
