Phone which one do you own?
Im due to cancel my contract and move onto a business contract with o2.
And its a mix up between iphone4 or bb torch.
im looking more towards the bb due to it being free and the iphone being £120.
whats do you lot own and what do you think of each? I own a 3g so no the iphone well and i hate the lag and errors ect.

I have an Iphone4 and love it, does everything i need it to do, and remember if there is any problems you go into your local Apple store, they dont send it away, they simply replace it, meaning your not without a phone, even better if its used for business purpose

I work in I.T and we test phones regularly. Avoid blackberry torches and curves, they're simply awful.
I personally own a HTC Desire, we have tested and deployed HTC Wildfires, which're basically a mini desire with a lower res screen and slower cpu.
I'd personally hold out another few months are there are dual core phones on their way.
But whatever you do, if you can be tempted away from the over priced, overly locked down Apple products, you should go for HTC. It's the be all and end all of smart phone technology, coupled with Android, it's awesome.

Another with a HTC Desire Hd here. Amazing phone (if you carry enough phone chargers about with you)
That said, it's got so many things going on behind the scenes it's no wonder the battery life isn't the best.
highly recommended.

Agree with John here, I don't have either phone but I have played with them both, like John said apple lock their products and software down, no customisation, huge premium for style over function.. The HTC on the other hand can do everything the iphone can do, but better, and won't say "you can't do this because you haven't paid us again and again and again" and with the android software you are actually allowed to fully utilise the phone you paid for! ZOMG!

Terrible devices atm, no doubt they'll bounce back though.
All round then, I'd say it's safe to buy a HTC and not be disappointed.
Battery issues with Desires is exactly the same as any other smart phone: HSDPC...which is a 'broadband' version of 3G. Leave your phone with data push turned on and it'll drown the battery within 3/4 of a day. Turn it off and you'll get near 48 hours life out of it without charging at all.
The new dual core phones will no doubt utilise new battery technology or simply use heavier batteries (desires purposefully came with lighter, smaller ones for style reasons)
TBH though, I don't know anyone who doesn't charge their phones while at work/while sleeping so it's all good.
Wait it out for the dual core ones, trust me, they're gonna be epic fast even compared to the Desire HD and Iphone 4.
Iphone is slipping behind because of the expense, the fact everyone has one, the fact they're locked down to shit and the terrible fact that lots of handsets had poor signal due to short signal when bridging the two aerials with your thumb. Serious design flaw that's cost Apple dearly, the publicity behind that must of been crippling.

Oh and constant open market ideas and updates for Android means it'll always be 2 or 3 steps ahead of Apples mobile OSx

Didn't know about dual core phones coming out.. Looking forward to that now, I'll wait though for a few generations of the dual core so it gets even faster and to iron out flaws.. and no doubt the battery life will be a joke on the first generation of these dual core phones.
Spose you could wait forever putting back buying a phone till the next best thing comes out, same with all technology, hopefully it will get to the point where phones are as powerful as laptops and can do everything a laptop can.. getting that way tbh.
Even my N96 which is two years old (which is medieval in phone terms) has integrated iplayer, 16gb internal memory, 5mp camera, skype, GPS, apps, bluetooth, wifi and can play raw .avi films now I've installed divx.. and can pipe it out to a television through RGB that plugs into the AUX jack. That's impressive to me.

My desire is faster than PC's I built at the turn of the millenium up till around 2003, easily.
I can see where you're coming from, I just don't see phones coming to the point of being used as laptop style devices, hence the inception of things like Ipads (pointless toys).
BUT...in all honesty, they're a fad toy that you get, play with for two weeks solid then resign to your pocket until you want to text/ring someone and look at the off pair of knockers or two on the internet.

Yeah, the way phones are going though seems they want to try and get every function in one device, e.g. camera, mp3 player, browser, media center etc. That's why I can imagine them replacing laptops in 5 - 10 years.. Why would you need one when your phone is just as powerful and can do everything a laptop can, in fact I think the phone companies want to be the only electronical device you will ever need, will end up replacing your microwave, toaster, cooker, central heating.
..That would be pretty sick tbh.

i've got a iphone 3gs, wouldn't touch another iphone with a barge pole, since i've had it advised anyone thats asked to look at the htc's instead.
no point having all the functions on it cos you have too turn em all off to get even half decent battery life.
was initially drawn to it for the features and the fact a mate has an apple macbook and the battery life on that is brilliant so figured they'd do there stuff with the iphone, unfortunately not .
