Hopefully soon things will pick up a bit. I'm hoping to get it insured and drivable on the road. Failing that, it might get entered into a few hill climbs or something just to keep it going a bit. Was talking to a lad in the track section about doing it so I might give it a bash. Just need a cage and extinguisher and a cut off I think then I need my MSA licence and away I go.

It's a super duper budget race battery

Not properly tested it yet, but if it works I might sell a few or reveal my secret.

Don't want to give people an idea then blame me if it blows up!! lol.

In other news, managed another five minutes on the car and ripped out the dash!!!

Tomorrow the sound deadening is coming out and I may look at removing some wires etc.

I need to find out if I can remove the immobiliser stuff but keep the remote central locking fob and gubbins though. anyone know if I can? Going to try and remove the stereo wiring, Roof console wiring, Ariel and air-bag wiring. That should keep me going for a while. Might even look at taking some weight out of the dash while it's out.

Little bit more done on the car so far today.

Little package arrived this morning so I knew exactly what I was going to do. Get the new parts fitted. Off to Machine mart for a cheapo hole saw kit first.

I attacked the front bumper with a 3" hole saw... I was going to go 3&1/2" but their wouldn't be much material left to provide any support.

After I'd done that, I set about fitting my newly aquired parts. I think it's been done a million times so I'm not going to claim i'm a genius, I just thought it would help evey now and then.

Any way, Pictures... Anyone guess what the new parts are?

Need to mesh the grille next.

She's looking quite mean from the front now.

Next up is:

Interior!!!

Dash it out so I want to try and get as much out from the wiring loom, back of the dash, heater control box (if possible!) and anything else I can get shut of. Might even look at a set of plastic windows. :-/ found some cheap on ebay!!

Nice aerocatches Alan . Got them on mine too (well bonnet pins). Makes removing the front bumper for engine bay access or by the wheel arches much better! Probably one of the most practical mods I've done to mine haha. I like the way this is going, you need a cage now mate.

So those catches hold the full bumper on?

I've not taken one off so I don't know how they're held on

Well, If I had some money, a cage would be second on the list after a 4-2-1 manifold. NEED to get one sorted so all the breathing mods are done.... Unless I just go straight for boost!! lol.

No, Mani, Cage, Polycarbs, more strippage!

Thats the shortlist anyway. Like I say, if I have a bash at a hillclimb or two then I'll need a cage at somepoint unless I want to throw an interior back in and run in the production class. I need to sort a shut off switch, extinguisher and a few other bits as well but it's all stuff that is on the ever growing list of jobs and things to do.

To be honest, i'd just like to get it on the track a bit more often, that would make me more happy, especially with it not being on the road at the minute. I got a decent quote back from sky insurance today, I totally forgot to ring around for other prices at the weekend so I need to do that tomorrow and then see if the boss thinks we have any money to do it or not.

They are held on by quite a few fixing points (on the sides, under the headlight, under the radiator etc). Can be a pain in the arse getting some off due to narrow access etc. If you remove the bumper crash bar/panel, it makes the bumper far lighter so being held on by bonnet pins/aerocatches adequately does the job.

Yeah. Their are 3 bolts on the bottom of the bumper/undertray section then, 2 screws at the top of the bumper that hold it to the arch liner then 2 at the bottom that hold it to the bottom of the arch liner, then 2 more that hold some big clips onto the inner wing. I've removed the need for any bolts by doing this so that I can snap the bumper off in seconds so it's easily drivable onto a trailer OR if the worst was to happen and I was stuck in a gravel trap and had lost my front tow eye, I can at least remove the bumper without it getting ripped off!

Like the aero catches! Any chance of a pic of where you mounted the pins with bumper off?

If you take the bumper off their are bolts that go into a bracket on the bumper, I used the hole that this bolt goes through and just measured up where it sits in relation to the bumper skin. It's obvious when you have the bumper off.

Don't quite know if you taking the piss lol.

If not, Cheers

If you are, I did say I don't know if others have done it before so don't think i'm creating a trend

Either way. It should make life a little easier when it comes to getting the car on and off trailers. I know some of you might be thinking that the bumper looks a bit fooked anyway so why bother... well, I have a spare bumper in good condition so this was a test to see if it works. To be honest though, I think i'll run it until I smash it up rather than waste it.

Glad a few people think it's good anyway

No worries mate. I find it hard to distinguish at the minute as I have severe baby brain! lol.

I'm glad this has inspired a few of you. It does take SECONDS to remove, I'll try and do a video tomorrow lol. snap, snap, wiggle, pull, off. That simple.

I love it too, look loads better tan using the cheaper pins and I imagine if I turned up at an MOT like this they'd be fine, as opposed to having pins on each side they might get a bit wary.

Hopefully I'll get some interior work done tomorrow and get the dash back in soon. After reading a few threads I might leave the heater stuff in. Few people have said that the weight saving isn't as important as it's quite centralised etc. might get the sound deadening off the bulkhead and see how I feel after that.

Once that's done, I need to get the grille sprayed, mesh fitted and the lights all connected up and tested. Then it's just a case of sorting the wheel spacers or chopping the A048's onto the VTR rims and I should be set for the track.

REALLY looking forward to it. My mum got the towbar fitted to her new car the other day so I've volunteered her for trailering duties.

Just need to find a trailer nearby now!
