Cheers, so far so good
Would love to get it to a good standard. If a cage goes in for the target money i'd be well chuffed.

Stod: i've got a vtr too. It's been a great laugh and put the shits up some of the 16valvers around here even worried my mates Fabia VRS a few times. I spotted this though and just had to get it.
I've seen a few rear cages around for decent money but it think the brakes, suspension and tryes are a higher prority at the minute. We'll see how the money goes.

I don't get why everyone thinks you need a cage to go on track?
For me, main reason I would get a cage is to stiffen the chassis up and make it stronger, not health and safety lol.

If you have ever seen some one roll on track then you would have a cage. I have seen a couple of cars roll on track one was a civic ep3 and the other a 106 gti both roof's were crushed into the shape of the cage. Think of it as more of a investment on your life than just a "roll cage".

To be honest, a cage is low on my priorities. If the funds allow and i can find one for the amount i have left I would definately have one. As was said it's some extra safety and at my age if i feel safer, i feel better and i'll probably drive faster lol.
Boony: I'm in withington by fog lane park. I may need your assistance with the back end at some point as it'll need lowering.
I managed to get the car into the garage today. Got the seats out. Tomorrow i'll see what else I can strip from it.
Is it easy to pull out the airbag equipment or should i leave the dash airbag conected? It will only have harness fitted so pre-tensioners are going and i'll probably fit my momo steering wheel too.
I'll get some more work done tomorrow and get some better pics up.
Btw... Cheers for all the interest.

Exactly lol, the body didn't even touch the cage so wasn't needed really, buckets and harness were what minimised injury
The way I see it even if you do lose control on track it will be safer than the equivalent on the road because there is no trees, lampposts etc to go into

Exactly. Like i say. If funds allow i'll get one but it's not a priority. I'd rather have sticky tyres and better suspension than a cage.
Rory: cheers dude.... So i just unplug it all and it'll be fine? Will i need to take out the airbag light from the speedo set.

Cool.
I've got ALL the interior out now.there's a little bit of surface rust on the rear top seatbelt mount on the drivers side and some at the bottom of the rear quarters behind the rear cards. Should be fine though, it looks like it's been wet inside for some reason. I'll get it treated and painted for piece of mind though. tomorrow will be all about wheels of and getting it on the axle stands. I need to see what the underside is like and get that sealed too.

what your best off doing mate, as its budget build, is sorting susp and brakes, 266 from berlingo etc be spot on
then go to your local tyre fitter, especially the part worn places, ask them if you can have the "baldy" tyres if theyre any good, and go through them for the decent ones, as in decent tyres, take what you can as your doing the place a favour them not having to pay to dispose of them
and you get some good free rubber that isnt road legal any more, but should still do a few track days!
i know a few lads that do it for their track cars!
