if it says no service, then you have no service. Go to your service provider's shop or talk to Apu, err I mean Kevin your indian phone customer service provider who will send you on a tour of repeating the same story over and over again until you get tired and hang up.
tip: the sim holder shows the sim it's been locked to on the bottom side of it. Put the matching sim card or brick it.
TL;DR buy iphones from shops, or doorstops everywhere else.

Sounds like its been stolen and theyve remotely blocked the phone.

This
I don't reckon it would show the carrier when blocked, you would likely get a message to say no service or similar.
Where did you get it from (back of a lorry?)?

I'd never even think about buying an iPhone without knowing about where it came from. More than likely you've bought a very expensive iPod.

Once they have been blocked (reported stolen/lost) only the service provider can unblock them.
There is a way as previously mentioned with the "eBay guy" basically I'll save you £50 all they do is go to apples website, fill the online diognotics out and make it have intermittent signal, it will eventually diognose it as faulty and offer to send you a returns bag (if still under the 1 year warranty) you then get a new (refurb) iPhone sent within 3 days,
The reason this works is because Apple don't check blacklisting, and they put a sim
In see it says no service and that's it.
So in theory the eBay guy is charging £50 to fill out a couple of boxes on the net!
