Default How to Guide: X-Sport Gear linkages

first of all you need to get your new X-Sport gear linkages. i got mine from the group buy from here.

there should be a total of three linkages the look like this, this is three sets but you get the idea.

close up, as you can see there is a retaining pin in them to make sure they dont "pop" off when your driving.

there should be 2 short and 1 long one.

one of the main advantages of these are that they are pure metal. the standard ones have some nylon/rubber in them which will wear away after some time. the metal allows for a smoother and firmer gear change

you will need the following:-

jack
axel stands
WD40 - this is a must
13mm spanner
19mm spanner
long nose mole grips

1. first of all you need to jack the car up using your jack. make sure you put the car on axel stands for safety reasons.

2. i found that if i opened the bonnet then this let extra light through so i could see what i was doing. get your spanners and WD40 ready. cant get the pic the right way round, lol

3. this is what you linkages should look like, the silver thing you see in the first pick the the Griffiths Quickshift

as you can see they just push on to the ball of the selectors

4. you will need to soak these in WD40 so they are easier to get off

5. once they have soaked for a minute of so you need to take the orgininal ones off. i used a 19mm spanner to give me abit of leverage on the longer one and the 13mm spanner on the shorter ones

6. once off then you can compare the X-Sport ones to the standard ones

7. you will need to take the pin off the linkages to get them back on. i just used my fingers to pull them off but you could use some long nose mole grips. be carefull as these tend to "ping" off where ever they want, lol. thanks to Tif992ss for this tip,lol

8. now this is the easy bit, just push the linkages back on to the ball on each selector

9. now this is the hard bit, you will need to put the pin back ina dn clip it back into place to make sure they dont come off. this can be quite fiddly.

10. once you have done that you are ready to roll. they should look like this once fitted

Only thing I would personally add is to apply a nice drop of grease in all 6 cups before fitting.

Possibly, but it won't solve everyone's problems.

So, did you actually use the spanners for twisting anything off?
