Seats - yours in particular.
What seats do you have for track + a bit of road driving?
Do you use the sliding subframes? or fixed?
Do you sit just right, or would prefer to be lower?
Anyone fitted Suzuka pro's?
I'd like to splash out on some new decent buckets for road & track use, so could do with some pointers.

What's the balance?
Track work only, I'd go buckets as mentioned, if it's genuinely going to be a road car as well, weekend work, sunny days etc, what about a good set of reclining buckets?
I've got a set of Recaro Speed's in mine, harness loops so you can use harnesses in them, vision isn't restricted for road use, it's a nice compromise.
I'm sure people will disagree, but unless you're 17 and keen as chips, if you are going to use the car on the road, fuck having fixed back buckets in it lol

Its a second car for screwing on sunny days & track events. The balance would thus have to accommodate both.
Rear seats are not required - the kids can walk.

I hqve the same seats as D4M and theyre awesome seats. Theyre quite deep so will hold you in place for everything but insane driving.

See, we're the best.
The advantage to not running buckets and harnesses for road becomes apparent so quickly if you're actually using them. Your blind spot becomes colossal, you can't easily turn to check as you merge onto A-Roads etc, they're far, far easier to live with, whilst still providing the benefits of buckets for track days. Whack a slider in, you can still use a conventional seatbelt if you wish, you've got a half comfy car for road days / driving to tracks.
Winner winner.

As Matt says, the practicality of GOOD recliners over buckets makes it a no-brainer. Buckets are fine for track but standard driving is balls. Also, I say good recliners because the quality and support/comfort is head and shoulders above other recliners Ive tried, and theyre easy to get spare parts for. Id never worry about spending the extra cash on Recaros again.

A proper set of recliners do a good job at holding you in place, the Recaros I have in the Audi are very good. However, Recaro advise against using harnesses with these seats as the lateral force caused in a collision can result in the seat collapsing (the eyelets for the harnesses are just for show). I'd check your seats can actually work with harnesses Matt.
A CG lock I've read come highly recommended.

bucket seats are fine if you pick the right one. I have a set in my AE86 and have no problems driving day to day. You have to pick the right seat though.
That means no big wing head protection to keep visibility good. I'd also look for seat with low leg support so you can easily run a normal seatbelt across your lap.. Alternatively you can do what I did and fit the seatbelt through the harness holes.
Full harnesses suck for everyday use so I use a seatbelt and a CG-Lock.

I run a Recaro Pro-Racer Hans Vario seat in my daily driver
It is a really comfortable seat and isn't that much of a pain considering the side head sections. The key is to have your mirrors set in such a way that you don't really have a blind spot. I have an additional suction mirror similar to what driving instructors use, to give me more visibility to the rear.
And for seat advice, I used GSM. They helped me with additional parts to help mount the seat and gave me plenty of useful advice too.

OMP Strada 2, use with normal belts but it's not track day car. I'm too old to be pissing about with a harness day to day.
I do plan to do the odd track day in the future so I can always add a harness for the day.
