you can restore it yourself if you have a windows disc (assuming you have windows) to put back onto the system after you re-format it, if you dont know how to do it google it

Most modern laptops bought from a shop have a hidden partition combined with a restore function which you can boot into using a function key.
Personally I would boot up in safe mode, remove all software that didn't come with Windows and do a full virus/malware scan first..
If you can get into Windows then chances are it can be fixed without a restore

try a system restore. click
start
controll panel
recovery
then do a system restore.
a calender should come up and let you click on a date to which you would like to reset your setings to a certain date. worth a shot

That rarely works, Microsoft System restore is pretty poor in my experience
Do what I said above, boot into safemode (Hold F8 a few seconds after you switch it on) and uninstall everything that doesnt come as standard with Windows.
Then download a free virus/malware scanner and go from there

so if you download a virus/malware scanner and pick up a virus scanning with the downloaded virus/malware scanner what will you gain?

On my toshiba going into safe mode was a ball ache.
So they way I do it now is:
Start
Run
Type 'msconfig' press enter
Then select the 'BOOT' tab and check safe boot
click ok and restart

Hi mate,
What Steph said is your best bet for an easy way to get your laptop as good as it was when you bought it . Especially if you don't feel too confident with computers.
Whatever you do though don't pay anyone to fix it for you it will be a rip off lol!

You can't completely balls it up mate, you might lose everything off the laptop like your music etc at the very worst but it can always be fixed and put back to the way it was when you bought it (maybe not if you physically fucked it up by dropping it or something though!).
But since your laptop can't run any software other than your Internet Browser the easiest way might be for you to borrow a laptop from a mate or use a mate's computer if you can... this is to make the CD you need to fix your laptop.
If it's Windows 7 or Vista you have on your laptop just tell me what version you have on your computer (e.g. Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate etc etc) and I'll tell you how to make a perfectly legal CD which will fix it. I'll type you up a quick "idiot guide" as well.
You need to understand you'll lose all your files though. You won't get them back - so if you can put them on a memory stick or something if you have anything really important on there.
