Only ever heard good things about these and slap bang in middle of your budget.
Sure they will sound ace coupled with a X-FI sound card.

You should be able to get a decent enough system for that, i got mine about 4 years ago and i think i spent about £80 for a 6.1 system & it still does me perfect!
Mine is a Creative Inspire 6600, it might be a little outdated these days but creative are a trustworthy company to give your pennies too, your sound card is probably a creative one
My dads & brothers PC's use Inspire 2500 setups and a friend of mine got the Inspire 5100 on my reccomendation too.
About 2 years ago i bought some logitech 5.1 speakers (Z-5500) for the TV though & while they perform much better than any of my creative systems, they cost twice as much!
i'll have a little look around just now & see what i can come up with!

IMO Creative arn't great for speakers anymore. Logitech are farr ahead of the field sound quality wise.
Id love a set of Logitech Z5500'S but i dont have £200 lol

Last new year i had the Z-5500's up full whack at a party, and a mate who was in the garden having a cig came running back in pissing himself laughing, so we all made our way into the garden top see what was so funny... What a racket! The wooden slats on the house wall were rattling around & it sounded like V8 revving by the time we got back inside there was smashed glasses and mess all over the floor, everything which was on a table was now on the floor
I dont think many (if any) games or dvds use 7.1 surround so you would only notice the extra channels litsning to music etc. Even 6.1 is quite rare so 5.1 is still the preffered choice for DVD & gamming.
2 systems iv found below might be of interest, based on my past experience & what Daryl has just said, i'd say the logitechs are your best bet!
