ive just bought a new pc and cant get msn messenger running, it says its temporarilly unavailable.

It should give you the option to "troubleshoot" when it gives you the error, click that and then, it should bring up a menu, where it will do some tests, after its done, click repair.
Do the other pc/s in your house work with msn?

try deleting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger by going to run and typing regedit
then install the latest version of the messenger
