Default Smaller Profile Tyres???

Ok here is the story.

I drive a 1.1i flat arch with 195/45/15 profile.

When i have 2 passengers and luggage in boot i get some rubbing when going over bumps or uneven roads.

Basically i am taking my girlfriends parents down to her uni to visit her in june but with them in the car i get rubbage on uneven roads etc.

But i have a 35mm lowering kit i want fitted. i know if i get it lowered before i take her parents down to visit her i will have major problems with rubbing.

But if i get it lowered and get a smaller profile tyre would this avoid the rubbing? or alternativly i have heard that if i grind off somethin in the arch (lip) or something this should stop the rubbing but i dont know what is meant by this, so any pics would be good.

Rep waiting for useful stuff!

Cheers

If you look just behind the rear wheel, inside the arch you will see a braket with a plastic plug in it. The bracket will probably have a shiney bit on it where its been scrubbing.

Jack the car up, whip off the wheel and beat the shit out of the bracket with a hammer! Bend it all the way back, and hey presto, no scrubbage!

You can even do it with the wheel on, without it jacked up. Thats what i did! But im ruthless!

Well the little plastic plug that goes through it is attatched to the bumper, but it doesnt really do anything. There are loads of the clips all round the bumper, so one of them wont make a difference.

But come to think of the clip didnt snap, it bent round and stayed in the bracket, therefore making the bumper even more secure! Lol

Just hammer the hell outta it so that its bent back on itself. Or failing that, get an angle grinder on it.

I could probably get you some tomorrow, but you dont need em.

Just have a look at it tomorrow. Its very self explanitary.

Just get a chisel and a lump hammer on the bracket and bend it back on itself.

You find it in the wheel arch just behind the rear wheel. Get your head round there and have a good look. Cant miss it

I'll have to do this as well , I'm still on standard shocks and un-lowered, yet i still get rubbing on the back with 2 people in the back. With that, and my amps and sub in the boot, the rear end drops right down (for those with my msn, look at my avatar!)

Yeah mine is on the verge of rubbing, it is lowered about 90mm though...

My old 306 used to rub like hell on corners. Slammed on 17s.

Its just behidn the wheel, quite visual tbh!

i had this problem and i thought my shocks were shot, changed them, it still did it. In the arch just under the black plastic trim, there is a bit of metal bodywork, that's what mine rubbed on, get an angle grinder and take off the metal bits, take them right back to the plastic and it will solve it, i have just had the back lowered 40mm and have 195/45/15's on it, the wheels sit perfectly in the arch. You will be able to see where it rubs as if it isn't clean it will be dirty apart from the bit where it is rubbing which will be clean.
