90brake v 98brake
Hey
Just got a VTR mk2 with the mk1 engine, the 90 bhp I think, it has no lambda sensor on the manifold cover, it's on an X reg so it's more than likely.
My Mate has a mk2 with a mk2 engine, which has the Sensor on the cover so I assume it's the 98 bhp model.
What I wanna know is will there really be much difference between them?
I have also heard the 90's are better to tune, they get more response from mods, anyone else heard this?
Any knowledge appreciated

Well ive raced a mk2 VTR on a 03 plate in my 1997 mk1 VTR which has the 90bhp engine and i won, i have a rsupersprint manifold, supersprint decat straight thru section, and a piper air filter, and he was slower, and i have 100k on the clock, so i must not of lost that much power

Ok, I suppose its still a VTR, not a Fiat Cincquento we're talking about here, just didn't wanna find he comes pelting past at any speeds.
One last question is, I have been offered a 4 branch manifold from a Citroen AX GT and been told it will fit a VTR as they're similar 8v engines, just wanted to check up before forking cash out for something useless. Thanks and thanks again for the help lads.

must admit, im suprised at how quick my mk1 feels since fitting the supersprint and 421. It really does fly through the gears. Very noticable mods imo and certainly as quick as much more powerful cars on the sprint track, ie cordoba gti, bmw 325 and MGF 1.8vvc race cars beleive it or not.

i got a mk1 vtr with the 90bhp engine and i have done a mk2 vtr quite a number of times there are some nice mods that can be done to pick up the responce and power from the motor like what i have done:
4-2-1 manifold
piper x viper induction
106 xsi gearbox (has better diff then a saxo one)
106 xsi head + cams
straight through exhaust with decat
you can pick up an xsi engine very cheap with gearbox so nice little add on to give you about 15bhp but you have to get a remap done to move the limiter to get the last bit of range out of it.

Winning a race isnt about 8bhp, theres alot more to it than that. IE Wheel size and tyre pressure for a start. Gearchanges, oil, engine age, etc etc
But 8bhp is 8bhp, and 8bhp makes a difference. If it didn't people wouldnt spend as much as they do on an exhaust, induction kit or something that does actually give you 8bhp+ cams.....
If you want to win, get a VTS gearbox and some breathing mods slapped on it.

well me and JAYBISS,
had a bet on the rollers
iv got the 90bhp model, he owns a 98 bhp model
my mods are supersprint race system and a raceland induction kit.
his mods are powerflow cat back system
and he beat me on the rollers with more bhp and torque, the 98 bhp models are better for accelaration but thats about all tbh more or less the same top speed.
it doesnt really matter thought tbh 8 bhp aint alot and its down to the driver more than anything.

Well i used to have a 03 plate VTR 98bhp version and i can tell you there is a difference......all i have done to it was uni filter, supersprint center pipe & piper back box.....still have cat in the system and it used to pull.......ive driven 2 90bhp version VTR's and i could tell the difference
Like now i have a mk1 VTR got s/s longlife system with sports cat........its quick but dont seem to pull as good as a mk2 to me.

open induction will suck in hot air
so your probs losing bhp with it
plus then your car is 9 years old so chances of it still being around 90 arent looking too good unkess its been maintained really well

mine really doesnt suck in hot air tho the temp gaugue never moves out of the white bit apart from in traffic ques but the once i start driving again it drops straight back down, my mates temp always sits at half way or just above. So definetly nothing to do with my temp.

I got against him again today, I was fully stripped too but I had 1 passenger and he had none, he still pulled even with my raceland induction, but wasn't as bad, hopefully a Manifold and straight through should see him gone.
