Default white smoke?

probs me just being paranoid, or ignoring the truth, but when i start my car, vtr mk 2, theres quite abit of white smoke coming from the exhaust, now is this just because its cold, or is the head gasket going or gone?

any one had this trouble before, or with any info which will help me out.

cheers

matt
