quick answer - yes
unsure if people have had problems with driveshafts though as the vts' drive shaft is slightly thicker i believe

I don't know if this helps, but I'm running the following (temporarily):
106 gti/vts engine
1.4 gearbox
1.4 n/s driveshaft
vts/vtr o/s driveshaft (as it has an intermediate bearing on it)
Everything runs fine, and all fits snug as it should do (no bodging) and no leaks of gearbox fluid etc.

but with both these your fitting smaller boxes to the vts, which has the thicker driveshaft, its the other way around for him

I believe it would but why would you want to?
would the ratios not be unsuitable?

lol
I havn't looked myself but Yates is probably trying to say the shaft itself is thicker (ie between the CV joints) but both ends/splines are the same thickness?

isit quicker with a vts box on a 1.4 because it has longer ratios that it does more in that gear?

to clear this up. the distance between the inner CV joint and the splines on a base model shaft is considerably longer than on a VT*, the diff is a different size this is why the shaft is a different length, therefore if you fit a base model passengers side shaft to a VT* box it will almost always leak gearbox oil, and the shaft won't sit properly in position either, the drivers side shaft was ok on the car i did the conversion on though, strangely
