Used to use a iPhone sock.
.....now I just dont bother as the screen is pretty much bombproof!

can you just whack on one of those ipod radio attatchments,
choose the frequency and listen to it in car?

yeh, i have an iTrip.
Also got a leather case, had a nightmare finding one that was 'perfect'. Used an iSock before.

the last few ipod fm transmitters i had where awful and died, you guys recommend one that lasts?
how often do you find you need to charge the battery?

I bought the iTrip for my iPhone originally but didnt like to have connecting/disconnecting my phone everytime i got in/out of my car. So now I just have my nano constantly connected. Quality is really good, you can even get iTrips now that automatically scan for the best frequency.
