What do you need to buy with the 400-500?
Head unit? Speakers? Sub? Amp?
In other words, what have you got at the mo?

6x9's are basically crap matey. They are crap crap crap poo bollock wank nipple! They just it in the parcel shelf, throwing the sound stage off every corner of the car, distorting one another, while generally having crap sound quality and flimsy brakcetry, causing them to vibrate.
Are you wanting a sub?
The best bet is to buy some component speakers. These consist of a woofer, which goes in the standard door speaker hole, and a tweeter, which you can put anywhere you like.
This is a suerior set up as the sound from the tweeters is directed towards your ears.
You can pick these up for about £80 a set. You would also benfit from using an amp with these. Around 50-60 quid.
To wire the amp and speakers up you will need a wiring kit. About 20-30 quid.
In the words of my good friend borat... "Ees a Niice"

why do you want to draw attention to yaself having loud music on??
get the car sound deadened as much as you can, you really dont want people to know you have subs and amps etc, so try and disguise it the best you can or else your car will be broken into, i always say to get an alarm before even thinking about ice now, best way to do it, speaking from expierience of having both of my cars broken into and stuff nicked

Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P6000UB £120
Amplifiers: JBL GTO1201.1 (Running Sub') £130 & JBL GTO75.2 (Running Comps') £80
Subwoofer: JBL P1222 £ 95
Components: Focal 130A1 £95
That's a touch over your budget, but get a nice big ported box built, some decent wiring and I can guarantee that it will turn some heads.

Your link to the Sub amp linkes to the sub!
Also aint that amp way overpowerd for that sub? the subs only 400w RMS yet that amp can output like 1200rms at 2 ohm and 800rms at 4 ohm?
its the same amp i just bought
:edit: heres a link to the amp anyway.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-GTO-1201-1...QQcmdZViewItem for £120, thats the guy i bought mine from, got it 3 or 4 days earlier than stated!

My mistake with the link, the sub is perfectly matched to the amp, don't worry about the amp delivering more power than than sub's rated at. Have a read of the sticky "Advice on Power Ratings". So long as you set the gains up correctly the sub will thrive off that extra power. Take a look over at Talk Audio and do a search on the term "Headroom". You'll find some useful information on how to match amps to speakers.
I may not have included this in the recommendations, but I did state to get some decent wiring. Most people that are willing to spend £4-500 on a sytem are more than willing to spend an extra £50 on decent wiring and accessories, I just thought i'd leave that up to the original poster.
