bike people (of the non motor type)
Right needing a decent bike to put in lots of road/cross miles to do some pre season fitness stuff.
Will need to have SPD pedals etc... so no pikey £99 shite here.
Anyone off here into biking? do you have links to some sites that sell decent bikes but are not silly cost. I used to buy MBUK and remeber it used to have a few good companies selling off the year before fram colour etc.. for next to nothing.
Any help would be grand, as need to sort something asap in a big ass frame (as im 6ft 6) and hit some hard cross in.

What kind of budget do you have in mind? You can get some good spec cross bikes for less than a grand. I would personally get hard tail if you're looking at a fitness bike (or one with lock out rear if you're wanting to do more than 50% off road)
If you can wait until lunch I'll link you

craig was going to go hardtail anyway, full suspension on 90% of the bikes is gay.
Im just going to be running big gears for power output up plenty of hills, some tracks etc... so need a strudy frame and pedal set up, which is big enough for me, and i can crank out some huge milage on without it falling appart.
budget im not to sure atm, as ive not been back into the market for long, so not sure what is about at each price for example.
£400
£600
£800
£1k

www.chainreactioncycles.com i use them 90% of the time for buying bits and bobs for the bike, just ordred some new gloves yesterday 50% off in their sale!
As for an actual bike you better to find a spec you like and then shop around tinternet, if your lucky you'll find it in a sale somewhere like i did for my bike

iv got a kona jump bike.
kona comes with very good frame build quility prob the best you can get but the stuff it comes with, brakes, pedals, cranks, etc arent the best in whatever price range they sell,ie a kona for 1000 quid will have same stuff as a cheaper framed bike that sells for 600 but it the build that wins.
also look at specialized, they have very good frames and equipment, for a decent piece of kit id be looking at about 1500-2000 for a half decent cross country example.
if your doing road/and a little bit of minor off road then x-country is what ya want, there lighter then a fully blown off road bike, but also a little weaker but is easier for road as a fully blown off road but obviously not as good as a full race bike.

i know specialised do some nice stuff.
Not prepaired to spend 1500-2k though, as its a fitness set up, and i live in london.
Just need to try and find the online supplyers that are decent prices for stuff that i used to know, I remeber i could get an 02 frame scott downhill bike for like 30% of the cost of an 03 frame because it was old colours

I reckon £600-£800 would be a good budget for what you want. Most places will do 12 months interest free chucky as well if you ask nicely

The 24 inch frames from Spez look huge in real ilfe! They are very well built though and you can normally specify SPD's at no extra cost

yep i imagine they do look huuuuge! but think 23/24 is needed for me tbh, need to get down the local bike shops try and see if any have any big frames in to see how i fit on them.
Spds are going to get a bit of getting use to, but will help with my power output.
