Serious Question...
If a speed camera has recently been erected, lines on the road etc and there is a whacking great sticker on the post which says "NOT IN USE" do you think that is actually the case???
Bear in mind this sticker can be seen as you're approaching the camera from quite a distance...

If it says not in use then you can use that as legal protection if you are 'caught'

If you think youve been caught go and get a snap of the camera with the not in use sign attached.

If it says its not in use, they cant do you if it was.
Legal action can be taken, could say you had to accelerate to avoid hitting a car as another one was going to pull out or something.
You cant be done.

my mate works for the traffic dep. at leeds council, he told me that allot of the camaras are fakes. as it costs £22k to fit a working camera but only £10k to fit a shell of one.
the police go around and swap the camaras at night from shell to shell. so ya never know which one will work so even if it says knot in use id still be carefull and slow down. saves points and a fine.

That is true but they cant legally prosecute u for it, for example whenever there is a police camera van as you aproach there is ALWAYS a sign that says there is a camera ahead.

they have got to warn you when cameras are around ...
which tbh i dont see why because technically you should never be speeding, so shouldnt need warning.
if your 100% sure it means the speed camera ... take a picture of it with the sign, incase you do get caught and they try and take the sign down.

Could be a sticker stuck on by someone other than the correct authority!
In which case it could mean that the camera is working!

bet some foolish kid has tried to be funny and stuck the not is use sign on it, thinking ah now everyone will be done for speeding, dont know why council or whoever would put up a speed camera and say its not in use so its ok to speed through this one, would of thought they wud let everyone think its working even if it wasnt.
