Exclamation Saxo Open Scandal (convertible roof problems)

Hi Guys,

First of all I'd like to apologize for my low posts... I only just joined the site.

I just bought an S Reg Open Scandal with the convertible roof.

I love the car so far, it's good fun to drive

I just had a service and the paintwork tidied up (I'll post pics soon).

Anyhow down to my problem with it... the convertible roof won't open. I am a marine engineer so I have plenty of experience with mechanical and electrical work. Does anyone have any ideas?! I have been searching on Google but I can't find anything about it.

Thanks very much fellas

As far as i know the scandal had a vinyl roof that was the length of the car. Not a full convertible but that would have been cool!

Is the roof opened electrically or by a twist handle?

Not sure if this helps as a different car but Mum's hood stopped working on her Punto convertible after an MOT. With alot of looking Dad traced it 2 a sensor switch thing on the hand brake. You can only put the hood up & down on the car if the hand brake was on. Obviously to stop you knackering it up if you try to put the hood up or down while moving.

it would be helpful to know if the roof thingy is operated manually(a stick that you can turn until the roof opens) or electrically (one button, push it the roof is open)?

Hi guys,

The roof opens electrically... it's the sliding roof. The car is a special edition.

The electrics for the roof are working as the roof starts to open but gets jammed after a couple of seconds...

I will go and take some photos now. Would videos of what is happening be useful to anyone who might know how to fix it?

I will upload the photos today.

Cheers!

Before opening the roof (outside vehicle):

Before opening the roof (inside vehicle):

After opening the roof:

As you can see the roof gets jammed after the first bit of it lifts... it opens and closes fine to this position.. but won't go any further.

Any ideas? I have tried giving it some 'gentle persuasion'

Cheers

I've managed to get it open now by having someone push from one side of the car and me from the other whilst pressing the button.

So I can open and close it. But if it rained and I was driving then I would have a bit of a problem lol. It just keeps jamming every couple of seconds when I open or close it. It needs someone to force it whilst the button is pressed.

I've greased (Shell G2) and WD40'd the guides etc. But still the same problem.

Guess I'll just have to get out of the car when I wanna open or close it eh? Haha.

Cheers guys
