Corsa Red top?
I know this is a saxo site, but i thought i would ask you lot on here as i have seen a few threads about it now.
Im wanting to buy a cheap corsa and then a drop red top engine into it with my friend.
Im looking for some good advise on what corsa to go for(if that really matters?) and whats the best engine and box to drop in to it?
Also how hard is it to fit the engine,Straight swap?
Im just wanting the car to be quick on the straights and im not going to be using it on a track,so not to fussed about the handling.
I have a tight budget of around £1000 for everything but thats just to get the car up and running.
Then i will spend maybe another £1000 once its all up together,on better brakes and engine mods.
Thanks for any help in advance.
Olly

MK2SLAG on here knows about them, maybe drop him a PM?
IMO 1k is not really that much to get it up and running, can be done but will be tight.
A redtop (XE engined I think with that budget..?) with breathing mods will do a VTS in a straight I'd imagine.

on a serious note, my mates have all used the cav red top, 150bhp think they are the sri engines, others have used the calibra engine i think, also few others have used the astra gsi engine, think thats 2.5 turbo, not sure how easy they are too fit
but best thing i would do is buy the whole car, instead of just the engine, could even pick up a cav for 500, you have engine can also take brakes off it and any other bits if needed, unsure if seats fit in, but ive seen calibra seats in a nova, may fit in a corsa, can also take the alloys off it and try sell the shell after
corsa b is gona be cheapo i bet you could get a good model on high mileage for 500 maybe less, could go for the sport models one that looks better than others sri? or just go for a bog standard one and have it as a real sleeper

1k wont get you far, the engines themselves in decent nick cost a fortune, over half your limit.
just get a standard Corsa B GSi, they look ace

corsa b's are cheap as chips.
as yates said most things like breaks and interiors can be swapped between a corsa b and a calibra you need to buy engine mounts etc best bet is to go on courtaney sport they sell all the bits for them there.

I love the greenish colour GSi's with the Cav Wheels on in black, used to go to college with a lad who had one, went like a rocket

pat's vts hammered a corsa that was 170bhp, altho he was laughin sayin no way was it 170, it was a corsa, showed us all a link, corsa red top, manifold decat exhaust and filter, said his vts easily beat it, and even a vtr would beat it lolz, ive always said i would be interested to see how mine went against one, but thats cams and xsi box, wouldnt know what it would be like just interesting to see, i know red tops are rapid

Thanks for that yates, that dose sound like a good idea buying a whole car then i will have everything to get it running.
Do you know if its easy to fit the engine into a corsa b or do you have to make new engine mounts?
Also could i use the drive shafts from the cav?

you'll definately need new enine mounts. i believe you'll need custom shafts as well but can make these yourself using the donor car and i think corsa gsi shafts or buy ready made ones. i may be wrong about that bit though. £1000 is probably pushing it
