Default Netgear Router DG834GT problem

Just uploaded latest firmware to get on PS3/PSP online and it worked fine, but me and my gf's PC's got barely any signal, so I downloaded an earlier firmware update only to find the routers powerlight and test light are flashing on and off one after the other.

Switched it off and on a few times and tryed the reset button but it didn't stop the two lights flashing.

Using the BT home hub to get online to post this.

...any ideas or do I need a new router?

Sounds like a failed flash.

There should be a small reset button on the back, you will probably need a pin but hold in for 10 seconds when its on and see if that cures it

normally the reset procedure is holding the reset in while powering on for 30 secs or until the lights do a particular flash sequence.

depends how knackered the firmware is tho.

held the reset button for 10 secs and 60 secs, didn't do anything.

Just phoned NETGEAR and was answered with an hardly audible eastern "good afternoon madame." so hung up.

homehub works fine with the ps3 wirelessly so not sure if I'll go out and buy another router now.

This is from the netgear site:

Quote:
Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
Release the button.
Wait for the router to reboot.
Log in with the default password.
If the router was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.

Unplug the router's power.
Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
Wait for the router to reboot.

Might be bricked?

I did this while installing DD-WRT on one of my Linksys routers...

Could try the reset, although I think it's more than that from personal experience.

Blag netgear, say you updated their F/W now the unit won't work, get a free replacement (like I did with Linksys hehe)

Best of luck to you fella.

I've had the netgear router over 3 years so guess it's just outdated. BT homehub seems to be performing as good as the netgear when it was working at 108mbps. Though the signal is only 61%.

my friend went through six of these before giving up on them. *Allegedly* there were errors with them, each different to each unit for some reason. thats what he was told by Netgear.

Think he is now running a LinkSYS router, same as me, no problems and fast as f00k. For me it is anyway!

Ring up, and ask for someone english, its not against the law to, i do it all the time as i cant understand half the people in the support centres nowadays!

white one. even with the latest firmware before I downloaded older firmware it was running crud. Can't see how I could have got it running tip top.
