You need to have an e-marked projector beam light for the h.i.d's to be legal, and also you have to buy a legal set of h.i.ds.
So if you have either standard lights, or smoked standards, you'll be illegal...

Look on the seller's website- if it doesn't say e-marked, don't buy it!

Very true it is illegal to fit HID in to a Saxos original headlight if it is to be used on the road in the UK.

Just get them..you wont get pulled over if you get 6000k ones as they look like Xenons so aren't uber uber bright like 10000k would be for example..

I've had mine for ages and never had a problem..just swap the bulbs over for MOT time..

In 1989 the UK government introduced The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations. These were a list of requirements of compulsory and optional lights for new and used that were registered or after the 1st of November 1989. HID lights of any sort are not permitted under these regulations.

But its not that simple as the UK is part of the EU and so any car that complies to EU legislation is still road legal in the UK. The Economic Commission for Europe Regulations 48 and 98 are the resolvent European lighting regulations. These do allow HID but strictly prohibit the retrofitting of HID bulbs in to a halogen headlight. It actually prohibits the the retrofit of any sort of non factory type approved lighting system.

Under both the Road Traffic Act (aka, the law)and the Road Safety Act (aka, the law) it is a offence to use a vehicle on the public road that with the above legislation. Hence it is illegal to fit HID to a road going Saxo unless your planning on paying the ECE to type approve a set for you or I guess you could jut leave thee UK to some place where they would be legal though that would have to be outside the EU, US, AU and JP as well.

It tend to be the other way round. All being equal a 6,000k HID bulb would be considerably brighter than a 10,000k HID bulb and a 4,500k would be considerably brighter than both of them. The “k” number refers to literally the colour of the light the bulb gives off. Its a old system but basics are its the colour of light a theatrical black body would give off if heated to the same temperature. So around 1,000k/2,000k is a red ish light 3,000k/4,000k is yellow ish 5,000k is white ish 8,000k is deep blue the on to purple. Oddly though the lower the k the warmer the colour is and the higher the k the colder the colour is. If you want to talk about about the amount of light a bulb gives out this is often given in lumen or lm.
