Default sky broadband

My folks are with sky and have one of their broadband packages (I'm guessing the basic one, but even they aren't sure which one!). They have the PC wired in across the house and I had the great idea to sort them out with a wireless setup for xmas...
I've now done some digging and seems sky hold you down to their hardware and lock out the passwords etc. Think I found a way around that...
Over the phone Dad described the router - sounds like a non-wireless unit (no aerial). Looked at their website, have sky only recently started to supply wireless only routers?
What have I got myself into here and what can I expect along the way?!?!
Any pointers appreciated!
Thanks

Cheers people.
I thought the old sky thing was a bit tight. I would have preferred they got cable, but they just went out and did it one day - crazy old coots! They got a non-wireless netgear unit (anyone know the part number?). Read somewhere that if your sky router breaks after 12 months and you still got a contract with Sky, they won't replace it and you are locked into their service with no way of using it!
So I've just found a way of extracting the passwords for their service, just got to get out and find a decent wireless router / card for their PC now. Maybe go in with my brother and get them something a bit crazy!
Thanks again

do not i repeat DO NOT go with virgin media. Not too bad now, but when we first went with them, they had broadband problems every fricking day. Couldnt get online at all. This happend for like 3 or 4 months, and sometimes now and again, it still happens, its rare. But the worst thing we did was switch from SKY to NTL which is now Virgin Media
