Big Chef Little Chef
Did anyone watch it last night
They featured my local Little Chef at Whitemere pool. I cant believe how shit the places look now. The food looks horrible.
They bring in Heston Blumenthal to try and bring back the magic of brand that was so popular back on the 70's and 80's
First there was the good old fashioned scrambled egg on toast down in a water bath. The Lancashire hot pot with an oyster in it. Which hardly anyone seem to like.
Questions.
Do you think that Little Chef is a brand of the 70's and 80's just like Woolworths were and have failed to change with the times to survive?
Ever been to Little Chef and enjoyed the food?

I watched it, and I have been to little chef once or twice in my life..I had those olympic breakfasts and for a plate that size you dont care about how it tastes as I have only ever eaten it before a long car journey.
I do agree with your Woolworths statement, beyond repair I think. They will just keep ticking over now til the time is up for them.

Never been to a little chef in my life, i did watch this though and will be doing tonight it was cracking! Heston tried and tried but when the guys couldnt give him a budget and put the phone down on him etc was friggin wrong and hes like the manager of the place!
Tbh the food in places like that should be crap and greesey its how i see it! trying to make a 5 start resturant at the end of a motorway or whatever just isnt right, keep it simple, cheap and british and people will be happy!
Didnt like the fact everything was put in the mircrowave though and the scrabled egg looked bloody horrid!
He kept asking him to think out of the box but hes forgetting hes on a budget and these numpties need to be able to cook this food as well! He was asking far far far too much imo and just wanted little chef on TV and a big idea for nothing, thats how i looked at it anyway!

i watched it, ive only been there a couple of times and that was to stop for a breakfast on my way to leeds, so im not overly fussed about the food as long as it fills you up!
end of the day they are basically roadside cafes? so why would people want up market food, you would normally want the basics such as fry-ups?

Wished I had watched it, what channel was it on? Might watch it online.
I liked Little Chef when I was a kid, when I was younger we use to stop at it on way to Blackpool or on way to the Lakes. Looking back now, it was shit but at the time I liked it - Grandparents said it was very expensive too.

it was stupid, the only help little chef needs is to lower its prices it's well expensive for what it is. so most people go to a normal cafe and get breakfast etc. thats why they are in the shit.

I think he is changing it for the worst tbh. The dishes he wants to serve i personally dont think will work.
I think if he wants to bring it back to life he needs to go back to the 70's/80's they need to bring back all the english food like that olympic dish.
They need sausage bacon and eggs. Sausage and mash. All the greesy englishy foods!
You dont go to a little chef for a meal with mates at night, you go there when you are travelling on holiday as a break and food. Thats all i can see it as.

Also watched this yesterday.
Agree that the dishes that he was putting out were a bit too overplanned? All that little
chef needs is tasty and properly cooked english dishes. For example if they are going to
do scrambled eggs then at least cook em properly and not microwave em!! Texture and flavor
are 2 of the most important things to me with food.
I think current little chef attitude is to get the food out there as fast as possible. I think
its here its going wrong.
And btw Hestons headchef was a total twat the way he was talking to the little chef manager.
Ohh ohh and I "LOL'ed" at the phone being put down. That was awesome! Nice one Ian.

It;s all ok saying what he put out was far too fancy and i agree it was, but then the fat bloke kept saying he wants to see more inventivness and creativity? But then again hes wrote in his report he wanted classic british food?

Ian the guy in charge doesnt know what he wants. All he wants is a quick fix and the money
to roll in. Which isnt realistic in his situation.

They need to get the old bastard out tbh...Stuck in a time warp that Ian bloke is...OUT with him and the stupid old board and the money will role in.....
Little Chef has had it to be honest...time to move with the times..Just like M&S, BHS etc...time to stop thinking what Little Chef was...and move it into this century...

I used to go to Little chef regularly when I was 5 and 6... not sure on the quality of the food back then. I just used to eat it.
Then I went there on a business trip 3 years ago - fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffucking shite. I was served by what appeared to look and act like a Neanderthal, the food was completely shit, the service was shit and it was overpriced (even if the company paid lol).
fuck you little chef.
